Recently, I posted a book review on Amazon, which included the phrase “gratuitous smut”. When the review appeared, this had been changed to “gratuitous …”.
Since when is the word “smut” something that has to be censored? I can understand that they would censor curse words or really crude language, but it was the book’s crudeness that I was objecting to, and they censor that! Ironic, to say the least. Not to mention that that ellipsis now gives the impression that I said something “smutty”!
What is wrong with the word “smut”? (Please, please, you don’t tell me how much you don’t object to smut itself…)
