Comparing Sports Night to The Family Guy?!? The mind boggles…
“I finally get Seth MacFarlane’s The Family Guy…it’s a Simpsons ripoff that’s too unbelievably lame to be funny!”

Actually, it does.
I just saw it on TV.
I suppose it could be debatable on whether the music is “Cheesy”, but I think it is.
On the other hand, the episode I just watched wasn’t as bad as the others I’ve seen.
which episode?
The boxing match that lasted for about 7 seconds.
It wasn’t that bad. Kind of funny. It was light on the drama, but that’s not to say I don’t like dramedies, that I just like one or the other. I just don’t like the drama/seriousness on THIS show. Then again, I haven’t seen it all that much.
I used to like Sports Night - watched it every week. What drove me absolutely bonkers about it, though, is that they repeat every line three times.
Person 1: You’re going to ask her out?
Person 2: I’m going to ask her out.
Person 1: So, you’re going to ask her out, then.
(obviously, I’m not Aaron Sorkin, with his witty repartee)
I can’t sit through 5 minutes of it now. Drives me insane.
Just want to chime in and say I, too hate that show. And “The West Wing.” There, I’ve said it and I’m proud.
Everyone goes on about how great the writing is. Bleah. It’s so glaringly self-conscious and pompous. He’s like a poor man’s ultra-PC version of David Mamet. Why do they even bother writing in script format when all their characters sound the same and nobody talks remotely like real people talk?
That’s what gets credit nowadays for “witty repartee?” There’s plenty of genuinely good dialogue being written nowadays: the Coen Brothers, and… well, the Coen Brothers. And Buffy the Vampire Slayer, on occasion, although it also gets too self-conscious for its own good.
Hmmm, I liked that. It was neurotically funny.
I absolutely loved that show, but like ‘Firefly’ plenty of people didn’t like it so it got canceled.
