I complained to Amazon --Who typed this answer?

I recently had an extended chat with @AmazonHelp on Twitter. I wouldn’t say it’s overly flowery, but it is almost painfully cheery and friendly. Although I don’t know why they use amzn.to, which takes a bounce through Twitter’s t.co.

I have wondered if the odd phrasing and usages are due to the customer service representative not being a native English speaker, and intermixing prepared responses with manually generated responses. When communicating with Amazon through their chat box, some responses are quick and consist of complete sentences, which seemed to me like pre-generated stock phrases, which may have been written in another language and then translated into English. Other responses that actually mention the details of my issue or complaint come through slowly and sometimes in incomplete sentences, as though the Amazon rep is slowed down by translating on the fly. In any event, they eventually get the job done!
