I cut the inside of my mouth

and it hurts like hell.
How can I make it heal faster?

I have almost the same exact question. Except for the fact that my tongue is swollen and bruised. I had a seizure yesterday morning(when I was asleep) and bit it. Now I can barely eat. It hurts like a *****! What ideas do our fellow dopers have?

Thankfully, cuts on the tongue and mouth wounds heal very quickly.

Kenalog in orabase. You need a prescription for it. It’s a gluey-like substance you squeeze over a cut or sore in your mouth before you go to bed. Works like a charm—call your doctor for some!

I am not even sure why I ever tried this, but table salt usually does the trick for me.

yup, rinsing the mouth with salt water can help, just don’t swallow.

I get these abscesses(?) in my mouth from time to time and they’re NOT healing very fast. Well three or four days with a painfull cut in your mouth seems long. Guess I’m lacking some vitamin or something…

You probably get canker sores, check the link for some info.

therealblaze go to your doctor or dentist and talk to him/her about your mouth sore problems. There are some prescription stuff out there that will help heal them faster.

Vitamin to take is L-Lysine which is an essential amino acid. Also talk about this with your doctor.

Avoid acid foods like tomatoes and citrus when you have one(or two or three, etc). Don’t eat nuts–I find peanuts and chocolate are the worse for bringing a mouth sore on. Here is a web page that lists some foods that have been associated with canker sores

I have found that if I eat yogurt during an outbreak, it also helps, YMMV.

Rinse with hydrogen peroxide solution.

Thanks…Yes that’s what they are. I was able to identify this not only from the text but from the great graphics that the site had. Thanks again.

you should be able to find oral antiseptic in either a mouth wash or a spray at you local drug store, for temporary relief.

you might try french kissing Ralph.
It always works for me…

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. I feel better, but now have canker sores which sting. I am trying everything in my power to alleviate the pain. Nothing is really working, but they will be gone soon.

Thanks again!

hehehehe. . .

Well, thanks for the salt water tip, Mangetout and ShibbOleth. My mouth is healing up rather well.

Hmmm…now that I think about it, I tried the salt water thing when I had bruises, not canker sores. Maybe I should try it. What worse thing could happen to me?
[sub]If there is anything worse, don’t tell me. I’d rather not know.[/sub]

I like to use a product called Zylactin. It OTC and is of the barrier forming types of medication. It’s an ointment that quickly forms a film over the sore. I get tremendous relief and find the sore will heal in a day or so.

I second the L-Lysine suggestion. I always take it when I have a canker sore, and the sore disappears within a day. It should be available in the vitamin section of your local store.
