I am watching Lost on my laptop via iTunes, which has removed my main excuse for wanting a video iPod.
Yet, strangely, I still just WANT one. Must…resist…
I love my Mini. I thought it would have more than enough room for all my music, but I must have miscalculated. I don’t think those full-length, 120MB concerts were a part of the calculation, though.
Think I can get one cheaper than $399 (new, not refurbished)?
Just like you, I had the Mini and I upgraded to the 60G video. Sorry this won’t help you, but I love the damn thing. I have large important chunks of my computer backed up to this things and the screen is fantastic. Do it!
It is a dock that allows your to hook up your iPod to your TV and stereo system, and not only listen to your iPod over your stereo, but navigate the iPod interface via the TV screen and a remote. Other media docks allow you to dock your iPod to play audio or video, but you have to see the iPod screen to navigate, which is difficult from more than a couple feet away.
So you can have your entire audio collection on your iPod (unless you have like, 1000 CDs) and just use your iPod instead of changing out CDs constantly. And you can view photos and videos on your TV as well.
It’s not due out until March, but you can pre-order one (I have). So far, previews indicate that it will be a stellar product.
I used this to rationalize to my wife the 30GB iPod video I just bought (which, by the way, I am thrilled with).
Just bought mine from Amazon. $379 on sale. With their Amazon Prime thingy, I got free shipping. So I’ll see it in a day or so. Bought the white 60GB video.
If they kept i-pods beside the register in convenince stores, I would definatley have one by now.
The fact that i have to DRIVE to an electrial goods store, pick the one I want, and take it to the counter (I find the walk to the counter is the real acid test of whether you need something or not) means I still have my five hundred-odd euro. I’m a reckless compulsive buyer. (And I’m trying to ignore the fact that I can buy one on amazon with five clicks.
Seriously though, whenever I’m out shopping, and the urge comes on me to spend spend spend, I take whatever shiny product has caught my eye and made it clear that I NEED IT and walk around the store with it a few times.
Most of the time, I put it back on the shelf. It’s usually DVDs or games or such.
If you walk the walk, and find yourself at the counter, then you really want it. Buy it.
Or, alternatevley, just go shopping with your S.O. :
“Whats that your buying? An ipod? you have an ipod! Put that back!”
That woman has probaly saved me five grand at this stage.
I have a negative comment about my Ipod Nano. It has that damned dock connector so you have to buy expensive accessories to recharge it without a computer, or to get a line out. Why give more money to those bastards who would do that?
Yes, I am a tool of the Advertising Gods. ( just on this. )
Does an Ipod run on regular batteries or special deluxe kind? Can it plug into a charger or cigerette lighter thingie?
I need links becaue if I start to google for it…I will become lost in the world of techno thingies that I don’t need, will never get to work properly and will become obselete the moment the package is opened.
iPods charge either through either a Firewire port in a Mac or PC, or through a USB2 port. You can buy mains adaptors to charge them through a power outlet rather than through a computer.
Battery life is one of the loudest and most serious complaints levelled at iPods. The batteries are built-in and cannot easily be removed. Apple offer a replacement service, ludicrously overpriced, as do some other enterprising companies. Battery life, depending on model, varies from around 12-18 hours in my experience. However, sometimes it’s a lot worse after repeated use.
If battery life is an issue for you I would seriously recommend another make of music player, such as one of the Creative or Sony models, and I say this as a huge fan of iPods (and an owner of two).
I feel so lucky…I actually won an ipod nano through a health promotion at work. I’ve had it for about two months now and I love it. I have never had any other mp3 player and I wanted an ipod for so long.
I have no complaints. It works wonderfully with itunes. It’s so easy to put songs from your CD’s on it.
The accessories are a little pricey. I bought a case with a carabiner on it so I can hook it to my belt loop for $25. Yikes! But I figure since the ipod cost me nothing, it’s all good.
My complaint is about itunes. For a music lover like me, that web site is like crack.
Because that’s fine for a lot of people. I have plenty of USB ports easily available. Electrical plugs, especially around the computer, are few and far between, and usually involve venturing into the cesspool that is the floor under my desk.
I own a new video iPod (received it for Xmas) and after owning it, I am glad I didn’t spend my own money on this product. Battery life is huge problem. I get about 12 hours before having to recharge, which means I have to recharge about once every four days - and I only use my iPod during my commute to and from work. And what Apple charges for battery replacement are borderline extortionate. Not only that, but you also lose all of your playlists/songs so you have to re-build everything after the battery replacement. So you have to basically keep everything on your computer and not delete anything or you’re screwed.
And the last straw is that today, a mere three weeks after getting the damn thing, it froze on me. Just stopped playing in the middle of the track and won’t respond to any button pushing. It doesn’t even recognize having the hold switch turned on or off.
None of my friends have had problem with their Creative or Rio products and if someone would ask me, I would direct them to those companies rather than Apple. The iPod is the first Apple product I’ve ever owned and it’s likely to be the last.
I don’t consider this a problem. A lot of electronic gadgets need to be charged every couple of days - PDAs, cell phones, etc.
Yes, that’s the way MP3 players are intended to be used, and should be used. It’s a sensible precaution, as MP3 players can easily get stolen, lost, etc. And portable devices in general are prone to accidental damage. You don’t want to lose all your music along with the player.
That happened a couple of times in my 2 years of owning iPods. Each time, a simple reset fixed it.
By the way, I just upgraded to the 60GB and it’s awesome. The display is so much better than my old one (3rd generation).
I also have the Altec Lansing boom box with my iPod 60G Video and the two of them are fantastic together. It takes batteries or plugs into the wall, and it charges your ipod while it’s docked and playing music! I never have to charge my iPod!
