Only for one of my accounts. I really need to do it for the other one… the one that has 6847 emails in the inbox. The other one only had about half of that. It looks so clean and nice… and I can actually keep track of the things I need to go back to, instead of just marking them “unread” and then they scroll off the page a day later and I forget about them.
I feel so brave!
Almost brave enough to do it with the other account. Almost. Give me a couple more days.
I discovered that with Gmail about two years ago or so.
I have a bunch of emails from SEO newsletters that are now neatly archived.
I also have lots of school stuff…divided into students, paperwork and other documents.
Once you get the hang of it, it is really easy.
Plus, it is so nice to just click and find everything together and easy to search.
I love Gmail, and I don’t think I have ever received one spam email in all the years! (And I signed up practically on Day One!)
They also have Google Analytics…a must-have for Website Designers!
I love Gmail’s filters and labels. I set the filters to apply labels to everything that comes in, and then I archive periodically. It is simply to find stuff because Dad’s emails are labeled “Dad” and Mum’s emails are labeled “Mum” and … well, you get the picture. When I want to archive all my Celebrity Death Pool thread update notifications, I just click on the SDMB label, choose Select All and archive (or delete - I really ought to delete more but heck, I’ve only used 11% of my space).
Oh I know that stuff, I just have a paranoia that if it’s not in my inbox (i.e. if it isn’t right there on the first page I see when I log in) I won’t remember it exists and won’t search for it or anything else until it is far, far too late. The flaw in this plan, is, of course, that the exact same out-of-sight-out-of-mind phenomenon happens as soon as they scroll to the next page. Or actually, even off the screen toward the bottom. So I’m not actually helping anything, I just have this irrational fear anyway.
No, archiving just moves it out of your inbox, and to access it you either need to search or click the “All mail” link. Other than saving the page from the File > Save Page As menu on the browser, I’m not sure how to actually make a physical archive.
