Indeed, best o’ luck, ava. Sounds like it’s most likely not deathly dangerous, then, from what the doc says?
(I’m WAGing, but I’d think he’d not have sent you on home if 'twere.)
A random thought (random being the only way my brain seems to function, lately): Antibiotics do often give folks nausea, until your system adjusts to them, as I understand it. (Paging Dr. Q, Dr. Q to the BBQ Pit, please?) Possibly they were working sooner than you thought, with the A/B induced nausea replacing the symptom of the infection.
In any case, take your A/Bs and (are ya ready for the awful pun?) I command thee, Doper - Dope thyself!
[sub] Oh wait, y’already done that. Well, enjoy the buzz and sleep, then.[/sub]
Best of luck, but I wouldn’t trust a doc-in-a-box for anything remotely serious - routine ear infection, yes - any infection involving a life-critical organ? nope.
why do I just know a doc-in-a-box is going to rip me a new one?..
Yeah, I’m not all that fond of this place myself, but the head guy is a policyholder of my dad’s and we were kind of hoping he’d be on duty. Unfortunately, he wasn’t, but the doctor there seemed all right. My own doctor recommended the place, so I trust him.
Believe me, I’m taking my temp every 2 hours and if it gets above 101, I’m going to the emergency room. Right now, it’s hovering between 99-100.8, so it’s at least come down since this morning. Now if the aching pain would go away, I could feel better. Well, at least it’s giving me a free day to watch the last three episodes of Farscape Season Two I’ve been trying to get to.
avabeth, listen to me, I’m being serious here. Go to the ER.
Sure it’s expensive, but the longer you go without treatment, the worse it will be. It’s that pain that matters now, not the temperature.
Please, please take care of yourself. I’ve been where you are. The first night I had a stone, when it literally felt like someone was stabbing me, I was in denial the way you seem to be, But I did, later that evening, go in, and I’m glad I did. They found things I hadn’t even felt yet.
Look at it this way. We all may be wrong, in which case you are out some money. But like the commericial would say, the peace of mind is “priceless” If we are right though, you may be saving your health.
Please let us know you will get some acute help. If you want to talk directly email me and I will give you my phone number. As I said, I’m serious. Call collect if you have to.
Ava, I feel much better knowing you have a neighbour looking in on you. I was completely away with the fairies for a while when I had my kidney infection, thank goodness someone called an ambulance for me.
Fingers crossed you don’t end up in hospital, but if the temp rises - please go!
And thanks for checking in … lots of folks were concerned.
If I had been taking antibiotics for 5 days for a kidney infection/pain and they weren’t working, you can BELIEVE I’d be the biggest bitch the local ER ever saw!
Please don’t play games with this - 100+ (oral) from a kidney problem is serious
Update: I just got off the phone with Baker (thanks again for talking with me), and I’m feeling a bit better now. The pain is nowhere near the level that it was this afternoon and early into the evening. And my fever has gone down to 99, so I’m hoping I’m on the mend. However, if the symptons return, I will go to the ER tonight or tomorrow morning, after my parents arrive home from the party. But for now, I do feel better (no, I’m not just saying that so people will stop worrying - promise - I really do feel better), and I’m just going to get some sleep if I can after I call my fiance to update him. Thanks again for worrying.
And BethCro, you must’ve had a good roommate:). However, reading about what happened to you has definitely changed my mind about going to the ER - I do NOT want things to get that bad.
Update - I’m going to the ER as soon as someone comes here to get me (in five minutes). My fever’s at 102 and I’m getting kind of lethargic - it’s too much energy to lift my armsat the moment. I’m a little freaked out right now, but I don’t think I’d be going if I hadn’t talked to Baker last night and gotten advice here. Hopefully I’ll be bck tonight feeling a lot bettre.
avabeth, I know you probably won’t see this for a while. But I am so glad you are going to the ER. When you are feeling better let us know what happened. But only when you are feeling better! We all realize that may be a while now.
This morning in church I had three people whose names I spoke in prayer during the liturgy. Coincidentally, TWO of them are named Amanda!(The other was an aunt) And in today’s Sunday School class I had a new student named Amanda. Something must be in the water.
[mother voice on]You take care of yourself. Do whatever the doctor says. Drink lots of water. Do you need your pillows fluffed?[/mother voice off]
I’m all good. I went to the ER, discovered that I had a virus on TOP of the kidney infection, but the infection IS getting better. I got fluids and meds via IV for a couple of hours and nw I’m in bed, ready to fall asleep. Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers (especially you, Baker) - I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck, but I’m glad to be on the mend.
My apologies, I saw this at work earlier but was so busy that I didn’t get a chance to answer. Unfortunately, unless I want to give up my vacation in November, I’m out of sick days, so I had to go in today.
I’m about 75% better, which is MUCH better than I was on Sunday. My fever is down to a steady 99.2, my back is only hurting intermittently, and I feel better. I’m still easily tired - I’m ready to go to bed right now, actually, but I figure that’ll improve over the next couple of days. Thanks:). If it were up to my stubborn ass, I’d probably still be laying at home saying “I just have to wait for the antibiotics to work!”. And I think my poor fiance can actually sleep through the night now - when I called him as we were leaving the hospital on Sunday, I could tell that he was about to break down - and when I talked to him later, I found out that he had. So the worst part for me wasn’t even the being sick part or the having needles shoved into my arms part - it was worrying him so badly. When we’re eight hours away from one another, things like this can seem twice as scary.
But again, thanks - I think having a ‘real live person’ to talk to and insist that I get some treatment helped.
Glad you’re feeling better, avabeth. Them UTIs are icky stuff, and kidneys are nothing to mess with.
Just in case anyone wants to know, prescription-strength Uristat is Pyridium, and works way better. (I’ve always wondered about the name of the blue-pee stuff, CCL–thanks) I’ve also found cranberry pills to be better than juice, since they have no sugar and are much easier to take than sugarless cranberry juice. I take them both to prevent and to get rid of the more routine UTIs.
