I didn't mean to piss you off

Dear Mr Police Officer,
I really didn’t mean to piss you off.

I know it annoyed you to be behind me while I was driving the speed limit. I could tell by the way you kept rushing up my bumper and backing off.
I’m sorry.
The problem is, if you are going to give out tickets when people exceed the speed limit you shouldn’t get pissed off when they obey the speed limit.
Even if you are in a hurry.
Even if you are stuck behind them.
Perhaps you should leave earlier and allow yourself enough time to reach your destination.
Not only that, but the county has installed all those sneaky little speed cameras and while you probably know where they are, I don’t. I already found one of them. I’m not willing to pay $35 a pop to find the rest.

I admit you made me jump when the road widen and you roared past me. Who knew police cars could roar like that?
Kind of stupid though when less than 2 blocks later you had to jam on your brakes to keep from missing the turn in the road. I saw that little swivel in your back end. Lucky for you there’s two lanes turning and nobody was beside you.
That it’s a residential area and has three school zones isn’t the only reason the limit drops to 30 through there.
You need to relax a little.

Anyway, I really wasn’t trying to piss you off.

I hope you had a nice day.

Sincerely,
An early morning driver.

Hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go.

I hate when they do that. If your lights and sirens aren’t on, then I’m not going to speed up to find a way to let you get past me. Tailgating is wrong even when a cop does it.

That’s what this was really all about wasn’t it? You women are all alike.

I’m not the only one who read the thread title in Robert Palmer’s voice, am I?

I gotta say, I love when you post, sahirrnee. They always read like free-form verse. You’re one of my favorites!

Nope!

Just the other day we were driving on the congested highway and a cop passed us. As soon as the driver in his lane realized a cop was behind him, he slowed down considerably. I remarked to my husband how annoying it must be to drive in a police car. It must be really frustrating to have everyone in front of you braking.

Nope!

I always want to follow the cruiser when I see something like that happen. See if he goes to a Winchells or a car fire or whatever, but I’ve never got up the courage to do it.

That’s what immediately popped into my head.

Couple weeks ago on my way to work I was driving past an elementary school. Same one I pass every day. This particular school starts its day at 8:45 AM. I drove by at 6:10. Now, despite this the yellow flashing light was on that says the school speed limit was in effect, meaning 20 MPH. The normal limit here is 35.

Those of you that don’t know, I’m the transportation director (Bus Guy) for a school district and have been working around kids and schools in one capacity or another for about twenty years. I’ve seen enough accidents, assholes and a couple hear tragedies to be an absolutist, zero tolerance person with school zone violations. Even when I know it’s not school time and the timer on their sign activating the yellow light needs fixing, I do the 20.

This day, I was followed by a local cop who was riding my ass. Right in front of the school, halfway through the speed zone he whooped his siren once at me. Just past the school, he hit the lights and pulled me over just as I started accelerating to 35.

He said he pulled me over because I was driving erratically (too slow) and that gave him cause to believe I might have been driving distractedly, specifically text messaging. I explained why I was driving at that speed. His response was of course, that the law says “on school says when children are present”. My response was two-fold: (1) the SIGN that the flashing yellow light is attached to says obey the school speed limit when the lights are flashing, which they are and it’s not my fault if the village’s road department has the timer set wrong. (Yes it’s a timer, I work with the public works people in the town where I work to set them)

And (B), here’s my phone, please locate the text message I was sending or reading.

He took my license but not my phone, went to his car for a few minutes and returned with a “courtesy form” simply pointing out that he stopped me but no violation was issued. I thanked him, then made him promise to get hold of someone that could fix that damn sign!

As someone who drives the same make of car as the local police do (marked and unmarked), I can sympathize. It’s annoying as hell. Especially when you’re not even a freaking cop. :smack:

Awwww thank you :::blushing:::

The signs usually say if the lights are flashing you need to slow down, so you were obeying the law.
If you hadn’t gone slower a different cop would have pulled you over and given you a ticket.

I wish I could answer this without being crude
