I disagree with this warning

I disagree. I clearly was attacking the post. I actually went to some length to show that I don’t have a problem with HMS Irruncible in general, just with his posts on the subject under discussion.

Pleas rescind this unwarranted warning. Thank you.

Yeah, no. You deserved that one. Not even close.

Agreed. You beat up on the posts but then you called him willfully blind. Then, you went all junior mod saying the posts aren’t relevant.

Even if you could argue that you somehow slipped by the prohibition on attacking post, the tone of your post was not suitable for GD or P&E. It was a mini-Pit rant.

The wording, IMHO, is what drags it into Pit-level discourse, and what earned the warning.

If you had said, “Your posts in this thread thus far have been largely inaccurate or failed to grasp the situation,” I think it would have gone by. But by saying “Your posts so far here are complete and utter shit,” that made it Pit-ish.

The tone of my post was not something I was modded for, nor was junior modding.

Could you describe the tone of my post?

Why can you describe the tone of my post, but you feel that I cannot describe the tone of HMS Irruncible’s posts?

It wasn’t junior modding - the OP just said in his opinion, the posts aren’t relevant. He didn’t direct the poster to do anything.

But it was obviously insulting. OP, you didn’t criticize the content of a single post, you effectively said he was incapable of writing anything useful on an entire topic. Adding in “…on this subject” doesn’t magically change it into attacking the post.

I’m assuming that was directed at me. If you couldn’t describe why a post was bad in ATMB, then these threads would be useless.

Are you asserting that posts may only be described in ATMB?

No, I’m not. But you asked why it was OK for me to describe your post here, and I responded to that question.

Nope. You deserved that one. By attacking all posts instead of the post in question, and doing so with such a nasty tone, you elevated that to the level of attacking the poster. Save that stuff for the Pit.

“Viciously insulting”? Hey, you asked. :smiling_imp:

You didn’t just attack the posts, you did so in incredibly insulting terms. Even if you were trying to stay this side of the rules, you crossed the line.

I would have warned you, too- it was deserved.

It was a bit over the line. I’d probably think it deserved more of a note, to moderate the tone, and keep things on track.

I can certainly see where you are coming from, it’s more than a bit frustrating being told over and over that you are freaking out, panicking, being emotionally fragile, that you shouldn’t even be talking about or paying attention to the subject of the thread. And that they are just looking out for your own best interests. They are just concerned.

I agree with the sentiment, that there were no posts from that poster that contributed meaningfully to the thread, and that they were entirely based on claiming what other posters were thinking, what they were feeling and what they should or should not do, but you did react with a bit more vehemence than is usually tolerated in said forum.

I’d more recommend a note than a warning, but I’d also recommend a note to @HMS_Irruncible to stop with the armchair psychoanalysis of other posters.

No; I did not ask you that.

I disagree. If I had written that post about something Rudy Giuliani said, would it have earned a warning of any kind?

Does he post here?

Not remotely the same. Rudy is a public figure and not a poster.

For extra information. In debating between Note or Warning, I saw he had 2 warnings in the last 2 years for insulting posters. He needs to stop this.

No, because as far as any of us know, he’s not a poster here. We have always been able to react insultingly to off-board individuals. For on-board posters, there’s the Pit.

I would say it was extremely jerkish. Why you might think such a post was permissible outside of the Pit is beyond me. The post was clearly intended to be insulting. Look, we’re not going to allow posters to play games by claiming that they were attacking the post instead of the poster, especially in this blatant manner. There is no question a warning was deserved in this case.

@snowboarder_bo, maybe you should stop trying to rules lawyer, as if changing the subject from “You” to “Your posts” and following it up with a string of vitriol that seems like the sort of thing one might call a personal attack somehow makes it “attacking the post not the poster.”

Maybe a good measure would be to consider how the author of the target is supposed to be able to respond on anything like an even footing. Your reply was hardly conducive of further discussion, except maybe as a hijack leading to a back and forth of “No my posts aren’t [all those things you said], yours are.”
