I do not like having a sprained wrist.

Inigo Montoya: I first heard of Tiger Balm when I was a little kid. Dad had some 8mm footage he shot at the Tiger Balm Gardens. Though I’m skeptical it works on sprains, it’s just the thing for over-exerted muscles. A friend was having pain in her back once, and she’d tried everything. I told her about Tiger Balm. She was dubious when she saw the tiny expensive jar, but she tried it. It was the only thing that worked for her.

needscoffee: Ironically, the fall happened at a ‘good’ spot in the sidewalk. Only those ‘tree planter’ squares are pretty intrusive.

picunurse: I haven’t heard of RICE. I’m trying to Rest it, but I’ve a lot of work to do today. No Ice, as I said. (I never use it, so I never make any.) I wore the bandage all night for the Compression (and support). Elevation is pretty much incidental.

It still hurts, but it feels slightly better this morning. Strangely, I haven’t detected any swelling. I thought for sure it would balloon up right after I injured it, but it never did. So I’m guessing that if it didn’t swell it must not be that bad and it will heal quickly. I hope so. It felt strange pouring my coffee with my right hand.

Elevation means higher than your heart. It sounds like it’s going to be fine, soon.

I took some ibuprofen about 5-1/2 hours ago. Might be time for some more. Hand-washing takes some care, as range-of-motion is limited. I can pick up a heavy book as long as I keep my wrist straight and then support it with my other hand. I’ll attempt doing the dishes soon. Not looking forward to my large cast-iron skillet and lid.

Grocho had it right. “If it hurts when you do that don’t do that.” Leave the dishes, wrap the wrist. Elevate it and RELAX! If you MUST do the dishes, wrap the wrist, cover with plastic, try to use your right hand to lift the heavy stuff. Shee, give it a day and it will get better, using it prolongs healing.

The dishes went well enough, though bowls were tricky. I left the cast-iron for mañana.

If only I didn’t have so much to do, the wrist wouldn’t be such a problem! :frowning:

Oh, picunurse: I’m a terrible patient. Little burns my bum more than being incapacitated, whether by illness or injury. I tend to force the issue. I’m slow to anger, but illnesses and injuries really piss me off.

Three weeks on, and I still get a twinge. I rode my R1 yesterday (and will do again today), and I felt it. I’ve said before that you don’t support your weight with your wrists on a sportbike. That’s generally true, but not entirely true. I was hoping to ride it to Seattle this coming week, but my wrist says otherwise. I finally picked up a guitar again. I’ve been too busy to play with it for about a year. Feeling the wrist there, as well.

At least I got the house cleaned and had a good visit with my friend.

Trick I heard about for sportbikes. Depending on rider position, you can use a tankbag as a chest support.

Sprain wrist: write haiku.
Break leg: write short story.
Full body cast: write award winning screenplay.

You might be on to something here.

Seriously: take care of yourself. A sprained wrist is indeed no fun.

Here’s the other one I wrote that day:

Trees on sidewalks grow
Ankle turns on pavement’s edge
I have sprained my wrist

Are you going to do the STP*?
*Seattle to Portland bike ride.

Negative!

Unless they allow 142 hp bikes to enter.
