I was talking to my neighbor about this thread last night. He summed up pretty much how I feel:
a) If the woman’s statement is factually correct, then it is not necessarily racist;
b) in DC, there’s a pretty decent chance the statement is factually correct;
c) yeah, Virginia drivers can’t parallel park for shit.
When you make generalizations about folks based on teh color of their skin. The fact that all of us are a little bit racist doesn’t make it any less racist but most of us try to temper or suppress our racism the same way we temper our avarice (well, at least some of us do, others embrace our racism and avarice).

I can point to a person a Tea Party rally and then turn around and point to any other random person at a Tea Party rally and say, fairly accurately, that they are quite alike in their espoused ideals and behavior.

Well, yes and no. I’ve been involved in some threads on the effects of intelligence and race and while there is some kneejerk reaction to any suggestion that there might be a difference in average intelligence between races, to the point where folks start arguing about whether or not there is such a thing as race.
However, the purpose and intent of some of those who highlight racial differences in IQ scores is at the very least geared towards explaining away racial differences in socioeconomic status and stuff like that as if to say, “well its cuz they’re stupid, there’s not much we can do about that” And that any attempts to level the playing field are merely attempts to actually tilt the playing feld in favor of these folks who are naturally disadvantaged due to their innate intellectual inferiority and not because of centuries years of slavery followed by a century of Jim Crow.
Maybe there is something to theory that racial differences in IQ contribute to the the low socioeconomic status of blacks all over the world and the basket case that we see in Africa but the Bell Curve isn’t the bible and it certainly doesn’t explain the entire gap between black success in America and white success in America. It wasn’t that long ago that you could say the same things about Asia and Asians generally.

I’m growing tired of these stupid little word games. Your use of “good” or “value” are irritatingly asinine. No one thinks a smart person is “better” than a person who isn’t smart, but we can all agree it’s “better” to be a smart person than a dumb one. We can agree that tall, strong, or beautiful people don’t have superior “values” to the ugly or weak, but we sure as shit “value” strength and beauty. If there were some hypothetical race of humans out there that was smart, stronger, taller and better looking than others, we might hesitate to call them better in terms of being ethical human beings, but we’ll all say they have better qualities.
So you don’t think the dark ones have lesser values or morals than white people, but that’s never been the point, and I’m not sure why you keep focusing on that. You do believe that they, as a matter of race, lack good qualities such as intelligence compared to other races. But no no, my attempt to paint that as a belief in racial superiority is a wild stretch of crazy talk!

I have said nothing about black people’s morals or values. I’ve just said that I am not making a value judgment when discussing the race/IQ studies. By “value judgment,” I mean thjat I am not saying that one race is better than another.
Here’s some food for thought: the race/IQ studies say that asians on average have a higher IQ than whites on average. I’m a white guy. You think I’m a racist. Is “we’re number 2!!!” something a white racist would be all excited about saying?

You may wish to abandon your defense of nonsensical points, if you really wish to avoid being “misunderstood” in the same way in the future. Dude, I just find your claims to be contradictory. There’s what you say, “painstakingly” no less, which is you don’t believe any race is better/superior to another, but then there’s all that other shit you say which seems to say in a pretty straight-forward fashion that you do. You don’t get to say that race itself accounts for differences among the races, and that some inherently have better traits than others, except that’s not racism because you said so. That’s pretty much the textbook definition, but I guess we just don’t understand you. Yeah, I know, “Some races better traits, but that doesn’t make them a better race!” Ya, got it.
