I don't get this cartoon; please explain.

I’m not dense, but I don’t get this New Yorker cartoon.

It’s the old delaying gratification test given to young children. In Trump’s case, he’d take the one marshmallow.

The Marshmallow Test (video)
The Mature Marshmallow Test (video)

Wow, I’m embarrassed. I majored in psychology and took a number of child psych classes, but don’t remember that particular test.

Elaine?

The pig eats the marshmallow.

IIRC, in the 60s tests they followed up on the children.

NOT ONE of the children with the self discipline to defer gratification and wait for the second marshmallow had substance abuse problems as teenagers and adults.

I normally roll my eyes at New Yorker cartoons. But this one was pretty funny.

They also did better in school.

Shhh-don’t tell anybody but they’ve actually been following up on us for more than 40 years. The last I heard they were doing brain MRIs on some on the kids.
Yes-I’m one of the original marshmallow kids
No I don’t remember what I did.
No they won’t tell us.
The original study was actually designed to study the ways in which children distracted themselves. The longer-term follow-up was not originally planned.

And the Sdope wins again!!!
Ya ask a question, and 4 hours later ya get an answer from the original source.
Man, I love this place

yet another New Yorker cartoon where “Christ, what an asshole” would be a fitting caption.

I can make an educated guess.

“I wish I was oranger.”

I remember one time a poster asked a question that had something to do with the old 80’s show: “That’s Incredible!”.

Another poster chimed in: “That guy is actually my boss. Let me go ask him real quick.”
I got a kick out of that.

ducati and Fran Tarkenton.

I “get” only ab9ut half of New Yorker cartoons, but I understood this one immediately, or as soon as I realized it was Trump.

I wonder where I fitted in to their marshmallow test,

I refused the first one - happy enough to wait, but I also didn’t want the extra one because I hate marshmallows.

IIRC they told me that they would only give me one marshmallow having waited and heard my explanation then they asked if I still didn’t like it, so I took it and gave it to a kid next to me, my thought was, you promised it to me and its not right to take it away.

“The good news is cartoon moose attacks are down 100%.”

Yes but if you could have waited 8 hours you would have gotten TWO answers from two original sources!
