"I don't own tv" people

No skill, just sense enough to see alternatives.

Since the web, we now have interactive “programs” and a wealth of information on any/every subject imaginable.

Used to be that TV was wonderful for the shut-ins. My mother would have the thing on all day just to have the sound of human voices (father was a drunken asshole who ensured that there were no visitors).

But to actually sit there for hours and stare blankly at whatever crap comes on?
Incredible. To pay money every month for the honor of wasting your life? Obscene.

Well. it gives people something to talk about at work. That seems to be the only justification.

I kind of disagree with this, and I’m gonna piggyback on usedtobe’s post. I used to be one of those people who would come home and automatically turn on the TV. This is how my parents operate as well. Whenever I visit them, they usually have three TVs operating all at once. It’s crazy. But apparently they engrained the habit in me, because I started doing the same thing.

It took me awhile to finally get in my head that it’s okay to have a perfectly quiet house, and that the sky won’t fall just because I haven’t watched the Six O’Clock News.
