I don't perceive Brainglutton as a problem poster

Fair enough.

:frowning:

What is it that makes this such a difficult concept? Is it you have some affinity for BrainGlutton? What if you disliked the poster would two suspensions and 15 or so warnings be too much slack? Should the rules be different for the special few?

The link to the site that was used as an insult was a predictable action if you read the thread that talked about the warning for linking to the Pit’s Troll thread. Regardless, would you grant everyone the same amount of warnings for personal insults? Do you think the board would have any productive discussion in that environment? Or would the rules be used as a bludgeon against unpopular posters while the popular kids pile on?

Fair enough. Upon reflection, we have suspened BrainGlutteo for 5 years. Have we increased the length of the suspension enough.

Plus, think of all the folks who now can finally join since we are [Brain]Gluten-Free!

It’s really not that hard to avoid warnings. BG couldn’t do it so he’s gone. Pretty simple.

No, actually I didn’t like the guy, disagreed strongly.

Based upon length of membership and numbers of posts- yes.

Well, I have three.

But- Bricker, even tho I often disagree with your opinions, you are one of the most valued contributors to the SDMB.

However, you (and I) have a cadre of haters who likely report zealously any possible infraction.

Same with BG.

Well, then, why do neither you nor Bricker have 20 warnings?

I’ll add, I have three warnings, and I don’t blame them on a cadre of haters following me around.

We’re not as rude as he was.:stuck_out_tongue: I am hardly ever rude*, but it’s very hard for me to back down from what I perceive as a wrong. And my sense of humor is very different and comes across poorly here.

I make no excuses for BG’s bad behavior. But I think anyone who has been around that long and that many posts should be given some more rope. I made a plea based on that, and it’s been rejected. That’s fine. But in some ways the Board will be a little worse off without his opinions- wrong and sometimes rude as they were.

  • what never? No Never. what never…well hardly ever.

Well, there you go.

This happens every time a long-time poster is banned. “Can’t you bend the rules this time? I mean, yeah so and so broke the rules, but they added a lot to the boards, so an exception should be made!” I don’t always agree with the mods, but this is one argument I think is totally fucking stupid.

If anything, I think more consideration should be given to newbies, since they’re just learning the ropes, whereas people who have been here for a long team know damn well what the rules are.

I’ve been here a million years, too, and have ZERO warnings. It helps if you hardly ever post.

I continually follow you around and report you, but no one seems to be listening. Harrumph.

I didn’t follow your link, but that basically destroys what (little) remains of the OP’s case.

Ah well. You know, maybe a 5 year suspension followed by parole and a work-release program might do the trick.

I have two warnings that I know. As a poster. At least one as a mod.

I’m a mod and have warnings. It’s all about how you live your life after getting warned. Do you take it to heart. Do you learn. If not, then buckle up.

…I can’t disagree with the decision to ban Brainglutton: but I’m glad this thread was started because after 13 years on the dope at least we could give him a proper send-off. And there ain’t no better send-off than a final thread in ATMB.

Actually, it looks like you only have one.

Well… yes.

My perception is that my own placement on the controversy scale is fairly described as reasonably high.

I have been described as a “disingenous punk,” a “Jackass Extraordinaire,” in Pit thread titles, and as “the single most dishonest person in the entire SDMB,” where “no one [else] even comes close,” in recent discussion. Surely that is indicia of controversy.

Only if the opinions are not unanimously endorsed.

They are not. I’m “one of the most valued contributors to the SDMB,” by other lights.
