You probably heard Barack Obama’s comment today that every child in America should be learning to speak Spanish. Many of Obama’s opponents on the right, understandably, have taken issue with this. For instance, Cletus McHayseed, a tractor repairman in East Butt Crack, North Carolina, had this to say:
Liddy might want to keep in mind a big wang-shaped state down South where a whole lot of voters speak “fluent illegal alien”. I know the right is pretty desparate for a line of attack on Obama, but they should probably dial this one back ASAP.
Woah. Back the truck up. That WASN’T Elizabeth Dole, that was shock jock G. Gordon Liddy.
Good. This seemed out of character for her, inasmuch as she’s spent the last six years trying not to be noticed. I still hope Hagan beats her in November, but I’m not as appalled as I was.
Not to mention that whole lower left-hand quadrant of the damn country, where people have been speaking “illegal alien” longer than they’ve been part of the U.S.
I swear to you, when I e-mailed that story to myself earlier, the comment was attributed to Elizabeth Dole. That’s the problem with instantaneous media–you often get the story between the story and the correction.
