I dreamed of Armageddon

It involved tsunamis and giant holes opening in the earth, swallowing us all up. I woke up as a giant wave was about to engulf my wife and me. Never had a nightmare like that before. I’m also sleeping 10 hours a day. I think it’s probably a combination of the health crisis and the lunatic in the White House finally tipping me over. Well, that and the greasy bacon cheeseburger I had for dinner.

Huh, I thought this was going to be about Liv Tyler. I’ve had that dream from time to time.

I can’t say much about the end times but at least I could walk to Boulder.

As a beachcomber, I often have dreams that take place on the beach (and involve finding lots of good fossils and shells.) Those dreams very often for some reason end with a tsunami sweeping in.

A lot of people are having pretty disrupted sleep and apocalyptic dreams (cite: what people tell me as a therapist and supervisor of therapists in training). So on the one hand it’s normative, and on the other it’s not pleasant. If it persists, you might try post-hypnotic suggestion as you’re falling asleep: Do deep but comfortable breathing and an autonomic relaxation exercise, maybe with some pleasant imagery ( I think of the ocean, but that may not work for Darren Garrison!). Say to yourself until you’re asleep something like “I sleep peacefully and have good dreams. I awake relaxed and refreshed. If I need to wake up in the night, I will.” If you do wake up, do whatever helps to return to baseline (like get up for a few minutes and stretch), then again do breathing/relaxation with your script until you’re asleep again. This works for a lot of people and even if it doesn’t work for you, it may at least decrease your cortisol level.

I’m a therapist, but not your therapist, check out ideas on line or with your professionals.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’m familiar with the technique and have used it with varying degrees of success to vanquish repetitive dreams in the past. This one was unexpected, but if it recurs, I’ll give it a shot. More disturbing to me is oversleeping. I’ve always been an early riser (20+ years in the military), so sleeping until 8 a.m. is very unusual for me, especially since I’m usually asleep before 10 p.m.

Greasy food aside, I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one having actual bad dreams while sleeping that are tinged by the current political situation

I dream crazy dreams all the time. But, saying that, I have been having truly frightening dreams. All ‘end of times’ types of things. Losing my family and pets. So, so scary.

I keep reading the thread title as “I dreamed of Agamemnon.” Is this a dream?

“Them old dreams are only in your head.” - Dylan, Talkin’ World War III Blues.he funniest song about Armageddon I’ve ever heard.

You’ll have to ask Morpheus.

I had nuclear war dream the other day. Since I live in a cluster of likely targets, and apparently my subconscious knows this; it wasn’t a pleasant dream, but it was really short.

At least I don’t dream of going to Manderly again.

Everyone where I work is reporting either insomnia or stress dreams.

It’s the zeitgeist of the times.

I’m having insomnia two or three times a week. I go to bed at the same time but I lay in bed for hours tossing and turning. Once I do fall asleep, I’ll sleep eight to ten hours. Needless to say, I’m having trouble establishing any kind of schedule of waking up at the same time every day.

I’ve only had a couple covid dreams where I find myself surrounded by people who aren’t wearing masks. I panic and try to get outside.

The strangest thing that happened to me was that every night for three weeks I dreamed about being at work in some form or fashion. I retired in January. I think my brain was confused about my isolation and in my dreams put me together with all my co-workers to make up for it. I haven’t had any of those dreams this week so I guess my brain got over that. I do continue to have very vivid dreams, moreso than I remember having before.
