I fear I'm about to lose my country

Peronism would love to be an alliance between the unions and the industry (and a lot of focus on social issues), the problem is that the industry is usually not fond of peronism.
The fact that a lot of pro-worker regulations were passed by peronist governments may have something to do with that.

If industry sees their main goal as profit or return-to-investors there will always be differences between these groups. A degree of collaboration on issues of mutual concern seems easier in good economic times than in challenging ones. But the substitution of flowery phrases and jargon for sound policy or strong action never goes out of style.

Do you think Milei will pull a Trump and claim fraud anyway, with not a shred of evidence? He seems to be preparing for that path…

I’m absolutely sure he will do exactly that.

Election day is upon us, may Diego Armando Maradona smile on His people today.

Best wishes to you and your country

Just came back from voting, everything seems to be proceeding in orderly fashion.
No idea what to do the rest of the day, refresh twitter obsessively and worry, I guess.

Polls are closed, 76% participation rate, 2 more than the general election 5 less than the last ballotage in 2015.
We’ll know more in a few hours.
I’m extremely nervous , feet and hands cold, short of breath, the works.

I’m following with bated breath. Although, since I’ve just had pickled herring as a before-dinner appetizer, one might say “baited breath”.

Best of luck and please post new info as soon as you get it. I’m sure your posts will be far more timely, accurate, and informative than anything we could get from CNN!

Early signs are not good.
We’ll have to resist for four years and hope to limit the destruction as much as possible.

Not enough votes from Bullrich and the rest went to Massa it seems, it’s almost sure that Milei won.
I’m devastated.

I’m so sorry. This is what the majority of voters felt in 2016 in the US.

I was thinking about that, just now “Now I feel how most dopers felt in 2016”, not that I was happy that night either, I remember feeling awful, but this cuts closer to home of course.

it’s anybody’s guess if the country I described in my OP is going to survive.

Massa just conceded, as every Peronist government of candidate has done, since Peronism exists, when losing an election, authoritarian populist dictators one and all…

I’m in tears right now, I’ll try to turn this sadness into will to resist, but it’s going to be hard as fuck.

Damn. I was hoping.

Will now hope that he doesn’t manage to accomplish as much damage as intended. For which, I suspect, resistance will be necessary.

The worst of this is that many of Milei’s voters said things like “he’s not going to be able to implement the worst of those measures, the left and the peronists will march and strike and fight and stop him”
What I’m seeing from all those who habitually march and strike and fight, and contribute the deaths and the blood in the hands of the police or the military is “You thought WE were going to save YOU after you voted for THIS!?, forget it buddy, I’m not doing squat this time”.

I can’t blame them for that, I’ve never been gassed or hit by the police, I suppose it’s my turn.
I can only hope that those old fighters will get over their current rage and feelings of betrayal and help me.
I hope I’m up to this too.

I know shamefully little about Argentina . But this situation, where the elected President is from a party that has few members in the national legislature, seems quite unusual. Will this stop him from doing most of what he pledges?

Gosh, this has me very sad. I had really hoped it would not go this way. I see what 4 years of Trump has done here and hoped other countries would get the hint.

Dang. I just want to cry. I hope this is not how the world continues to turn.

I can only add my feelings of bereft dread for you to what others have already well said. Give yourself time to grieve, but don’t give up the fight. I am so sorry.

I’m so sorry.
