I fear I'm about to lose my country

Presented with this kind of objection, defenders of the law are saying that it means “more than 3 people with the purpose of protesting or demonstrating”, I don’t see it in the plain text, but some of it refers to previous articles and it’s dense legalese so it may be there.
Anyway it’s obvious that it will be willfully abused to stop the coming wave of protests any way they can.
I’ll be on the protest scheduled with the general strike on Jan 24, we’ll see what happens.

I hope Argentina retains its sanity (or what’s left of it, they do seem to like their therapy). This interesting article confirms you don’t want “a dictator for a day”.

Narrator: “… and that was the last time anyone has ever seen or heard from Frodo.

All joking aside, good on you for exercising your right to demonstrate peacefully, and I hope you make it out ok that day.

Thanks!, I doubt anything too bad will happen, my 70 years old mom will be there too surely (she was on the one last wednesday that I couldn’t go to because I wasn’t feeling well), and my sister too.
There’s a tradition of political protesting here, they are going to try and destroy it but I doubt they’ll succeed, I’m not so sure about the rest of the good things about Argentina sadly.

Fascism Watch, day 19:

In other news the Decree from Hell is formally in force starting today, it was to be hoped that the Judiciary would stop it with a stay… but no such luck, the Supreme court says is going to “analyze” it when they come back to work in February…
Even if they overturn it in February, what will happen with all the rent contracts, employment contracts and other things affected by it that were signed from now to February? Chaos!, in that, if not in any other things, these idiots are thoroughly Argentinian.

It’s funny how when Mauricio Macri felt that he was being cheated on the elections for club president in Boca Juniors there were 2 separate stays to stop the election, adjudicated immediately (and he still lost the election by 30 percentage points).
But this monster of a decree, very very probably unconstitutional and affecting practically everythings with very hard to revert changes?, nah, we’ll get to it when we get to it…

Our usual retort to that (for those not in the know, Buenos Aires is the city with more Psychologists per capita in the world) is that we are saner than everybody else, because we go to therapy.
But seeing what the majority voted I’m not so sure anymore…

This is terrible. I’m so sorry, and appalled that our media don’t seem to be covering it. I’m really grateful for your updates.

(My only connection to Argentina is knowing some people connected to the Welsh community in Patagonia, but that’s more than enough to care about what’s happening.)

Frodo, if it wasn’t for your posts I wouldn’t have heard about what’s going on in Argentina. I read papers, magazine and see the internet too Why is this being passed over I wonder.

I heard about the Fascist wannabe being elected, and what a potential disaster.

But none of the details he is giving us.

Looks like Argentina is hitting the BRICS.

The people who were scrambling to come up with the next cute acronym are probably sighing in relief.

BRAICS. Spelled akin to “brains” and pronounced like “breaks” or “brakes”. Next hard question?

I like RIBSAC.

SCARIB is a close second.

BASIC R works, too.

Bring in Eritrea and you could have ASCRIBE.

First sensible thing I ever read about this loony Milei. BRICS is bullshit.
Still a very bad perspective: it is not worth burning Argentina down just to put a spanner in BRICS works, they will fail all on their own.

I don’t see it that way, it costs nothing to belong to BRICS and they represent almost half the world’s GNP, not that I think it is so good to belong either, just a good idea.
But in any case is a foreign policy decision that can be right or wrong, if my only disagreements with this lot were about joining BRICS or not I would be far happier.

I’m partial to ABUSE PRICES. Or PURE SCABIES.

Jesus Christ.

Re reading I may have exaggerated a bit, it would be more precise to say “most” congressional power instead of “all”.

Any thoughts about this? Is El Jefe as rational as el jefe?

Even less, I fear.
