I fear I'm about to lose my country

Welp, Security minister and failed presidential candidate Patricia Bullrich (who’s now working for the same man who accused her of “planting bombs in kindergartens”) is on full threat mode, saying that her “security protocol” forbidding demonstrators from marching on the street (because it interrupts traffic) will be enforced on the demonstration scheduled for Jan 24, and that it is “a matter of life and death”(!!!).
It’s absolutely impossible for the amount of people that’s going to march to restrict themselves to sidewalks, and we aren’t even going to try.
I’m thinking of telling my mom not to go, but I doubt she’ll listen, she’s been doing this since the 70’s when the fascists were far more menacing than they are now.

I suspect that your mom is thinking of telling you not to go, but doubts that you’d listen.

Best of luck to you and please try to post afterward if you can.

Yeah but my mom is 71 years old.
What angers me the most is that this is probably what she’s looking for, for people to get scared and refrain from protesting.

I think you can remove the “probably” from that sentence.

You can’t discount “pure idiocy” as a motivation, but yeah.

Interesting that Milei got to self-appoint as the one to “school” the world on libertarian superiority. Then again Davos itself is the kind of event that makes you think “no wonder people believe in ruling elite cabals”.

Meanwhile my Trump/RFK Jr - enthusiast friend (because of course he would be enthusiastic about both  ) is like, really in love with the news he hears about Milei. I get it, you want someone/thing, anyone/thing to come and upend the corrupt system. But really, folks, anything is not better that whatever’s around.

I think that’s possibly Milei’s biggest appeal, the promise of upending a corrupt system, the problem is that he has already surrounded himself with members of (one part) of that same system.
Sooner or later most of his followers will realize that they’ve been duped, but it may be too late by then.

Maybe you read this type of thing in local media. But the New York Post seems to like Milei’s Ayn Randianism. Plus ça change.

Well you know about the readers of the NY Post…

Getting ready to go to the protest, I’ll let you know how it goes if I have time and cell signal.

Be safe Frodo. I hope it helps.

Thanks!.
There was an order from judge a couple of days ago forbidding the charming practices I described here:

But from I see in twitter that they are doing it anyway, the bastards.

Took the bus, learned that police have blocked the main bridge between here and Downtown Buenos Aires, stepped down from the bus, took the train, it’s packed to the gills.

Good luck! What you are doing is very important.

I took the train when we won the world cup to come to Buenos Aires too
And it was just as packed and people were singing like they are now , if a bit less and using different songs.

Thanks!
Now I reached Buenos Aires proper, but the subway station was closed, walked about ten blocks to the next one and it was open :slightly_smiling_face:

Marching now towards Congress

I’m watching a live stream from C5N. I haven’t seen any dirty tricks by the police yet.

(I wish I had paid closer attention in high school Spanish.)

Good luck!

And glad that it seems threats haven’t led to a poor turnout.

Looks like they haven’t dared implement Bulrich’s vaunted new “protocol”, at leat not yet
