I was in the top left corner of this photo, I think.
Fearless leaders…
(Political cartoons both by brilliant Argentine artist Quino, better known for Mafalda.)
Working class on March of Cry Out vs. middle class on March of Be Quiet has been one of my favorites from him for a long time.
This is a very big defeat for the administration, if compounded by a sufficiently big defeat in October (Assured in BA, but that’s just 40% of the population) it could be effectively the end of the libertarian “dream”, what will replace it it’s anybody’s guess.
But what I think it’s clear is that we are not going to destroy public health and education no matter what.
So, the “view from the trenches”
2 Baggins siblings at the march:
Me, representing the “Rick Hunter” wing of the resistance… (and being photobombed by my sister’s finger):
Congress, through the flags:
The band playing “Alta coimera”, the latest hit
“Alta Coimera” can be translated as “Great (female)bribe taker”, a song dedicated to Karina, Milei’s sister since it voice recordings of a close ally/friend of the Milei siblings saying that “Karina takes 3% of everything” were made public a few weeks ago.
Great job and congratulations!
Wish us luck.
Thanks!
Sending good vibes, remember that everything seemed very dark here too (and it’s very dark still but there are signs that the sun is about to rise)
The moment the vetoes are overriden:
Almost, almost as much noise as an Argentina goal in the world cup.
Remember this? It seems like it’s happening again, who woulda thunk it if the minister is… Oh Luis Caputo again…
(sorry I did not reply earlier, I have been away since Sunday)
I’m happy that you and yours have seen (and, more credit, been a part of) the turning point against a “Libertarian” gutting the nation for his ego and to enrich himself and his allies.
And looking at your shirt, I’m starting to draw mental parallels between Milei and Kyron. Now I’ll be stuck with that thought for days!
You are offending the memory of an honest homicidal maniac my good sir!
Well, I wanted to do a link to the military leaders of The Army of the Southern Cross, but it’s a Macross shirt. Got to respect the Generation selected!
But I will drop the comparison, far be it for me to offend your memories of a beloved psychotic yet charismatic wretch! I too have many fond memories of the Harmony Gold stir-fry of series that created Robotech.
(Looks downstairs, sees the entire novel line, the DVD collection, and the Palladium RPG series of Macross through Sentinels)
I see you are a man of culture!.
You have no idea how hard it was to get the Robotech novels here in the late 90’s when I found out they existed.
Press is reporting that Milei is getting/hopes to get a 10-30 billion dollar loan directly from Trump in exchange (or so it’s rumoured) from basing rights in Tierra del Fuego, a rare earth extraction exclusivity agreement for U.S. companies and/or droit de seigneur over the entire Argentinian population…
When I feared losing my country I didn’t think it was going to be so literal…
Aaaand they gave it to him, Trump is bailing out Milei to the tune of 20 billion dollars
So now they get to pospone the debacle for a year at best for the low low price of saddling us with another 20 billion dollars of fucking debt. (may be a a bit less of 20 billion because they’ll use part of the new loan to pay older loans… yay)
I saw the news last night but figured anything I posted based on my immediate feeling would have been really, really inappropriate. I’ll say that it proves the hypocrisy of both “leaders”, the American one who wants to cut “government waste” but it of course doesn’t apply to his own or those who suck up to him. As for Milei, buying your way out of debt your policies are making worse with more debt seems so far from “Libertarianism” that the mind boggles.
Sadly, this doesn’t tell us anything about either that we didn’t already know.
All good thoughts to you and yours Frodo.
Thanks.
No idea what’s going to happen in the midterms in late October now.
On the one hand this should temporarily improve economic conditions (but not too much, and it would be possibly not even be felt on the street level of the economy).
On the other this kind of humiliation can really turbocharge the anti-Milei vote, it happened last time when Macri had to go back to the IMF.
When someone rational gets to the Casa Rosada we’ll have to find a way to renegotiate all that debt, is completely unpayable.
When you can never repay your debt you become a slave. And that, I am afraid, is precisely the point.
I find myself completely unable to express how angry I am.
In this, as alluded to earlier, Millei has failed to “do different”. He has reached instead for the old-reliable standby of “need money now? Load up on foreign debt and we’ll figure it out later.”
