I feel dirty and guilty and we haven’t even had adulterous sex. (Rant: Free Enterprise Nation)

Lady of the Lake, as long as this thread stays on the front page, I’m going to feel bad about the fact that you have to feel dirty and guilty without even getting any adulterous sex out of it.

Why’n’t you come on over this afternoon?

Tangentially related Great Debate (re: increasing federal wage/private sector wage gap)

I think California is a bit far for that, unfortunately, though if I feel the urge I’ve heard that Craigslist might offer unimaginable wonders in that area…

Ogre,
Thank you for linking that – I am checking out the thread!

In what Universe do PE and Driver’s Ed teachers earn over $100,000 a year, with pensions that match that salary (for the rest of their lives?).

Something isn’t adding up.

My Dad is a retired Major General in the US Army, put in 36 years of his life as a West Point graduate in 1963, two tours in Vietnam, and when he retired in 1999 his base salary was something like $120,000 per year, which seems fair to me. Retirement in the military doesn’t give you your salary en toto, it’s a percentage of what you were earning at the time of retirement based on your rank and years of service, plus health benefits for you and your spouse. Fair enough.

By my reckoning, my old man is getting about $75-80k per year in retirement pay, which I think is also fair for almost 40 years of government service.

Something just isn’t adding up here. I thought that civilians with government jobs got a similar deal. You don’t pay someone their exact same salary they were making after they retire, let alone more. It doesn’t make sense.
