Well, this was a heck of a weekend. My Lady Wife, FaerieBeth, was in charge of a day event hosted by the local SCA (society for creative anachronism, a medieval history group).
The event was supposed to be fairly small- 50-75 people at the most. The group had considered cancelling it, but my wife stepped up at the last minute to offer to organize it. Thus begins the saga of CandleLight Camp 2004 brought to you by the Barony of Small Gray Bear, held at Arkansas State University - Beebe.
Anywho, my wife organized a heck of an event- so good, in fact, that we ended up with close to 200 people in attendance!
It was great. She worked her heart out, and I just wanted to post it somewhere, because I am so very proud of her.
We had classes (pirating, heraldry, herbs, candlemaking, armor, dancing), tourneys(heavy fighting, rapier, archery, chess), merchants, and it all culminated with a feast the likes of which no one had ever seen before. 5 courses, 5 chefs, 5 different parts of the world. It was stupendous.
The only ‘flop’ i guess would be the ball afterwords…mostly because everyone was stuffed to the gills with wonderful food. Frankly, I don’t think it could have gone better than it did.
If anyone wants more info on it (complete w/ feast menus), check out http://www.smallgraybear.org/_wsn/page2.html
So there it goes. Next time, maybe we’ll put it up here and have a Medieval Dopefest in the wilds of Central Arkansas.
