I finally just saw Skinny Puppy!

Okay, I asked around and two possibilities that were thrown out for this one are :Wumpscut:'s “Wreath of Barbs” and perhaps something by Snog.

Beers, Steers and Queers?

Naaaaaaa!

I’ll probably have to call the Vic and see if the sound guy remembers. It’s going to drive me nuts. It wasn’t Wumpscut nor RevCo and 99% sure it wasn’t snog. Sounded fairly recent (as trends in music go). Like I said, it was very VNVish with remarkably static/sparse melodies/synth lines and similar vocals.

I dunno, I’ll have to go out to the clubs and bother the DJs.

On the plus side, I recently read that Industrial was coming back, which is good. I have to wonder though, are they talking about Wax Trax-style or are the EBM guys just adding guitars?

Local show rocked, they’re shooting the tour DVD in Montréal and Toronto. Got passes for a small after-show gathering, but Mr. Ogre never showed, Mr. Key could not have been more gracious, or taller.

They’re here? Bugger! When? I should check torontogoth.com more often.

You must be from Canada - eh?

I saw Skinny Puppy in I think 86 — in Calgary – I got a gig poster on my website for it.

When I went to Vancouver in 88 - those guys used to wander the streets screaming - “Death Death” - and they used to drink at the Love Affair – I think I lost interest in them after having met them (actually I got into some much harder music, and just wasn’t interested at all in Skinny Puppy after Smothered Hope).

I had a cassette that I bought of Smothered Hope where the second side was recorded backwards – I sold it to some guy for $50 saying it was a rare edition – I don’t know if it was – but I just wanted the money for beer.

They’re playing Chicago again, but the Congress theater makes it impossible to get tickets. Hmmm…

Here is the gig poster – I think it was 86 or 87.

We hired 'em for the Frostbite Music Festival way back in the early eighties…it was one of the only bands that Yukoners actively bailed on. They started with a full audience, by the time they were done two songs there were ten people left. Most of them festival crew. I heard they sucked so hard the building nearly imploded - this coming from die-hard Clash, Sex Pistols, and Plasmatics fans.

Sounds like by now they’ve learned summat.

tisiphone - they still weren’t too great yet at the gig in Calgary … one of my friends was utterly in love with Skinny Puppy - so she forced me to go with her.

By the way – tisiphone - I’ve sent an email to you via the address you’ve listed here.
