I find it ironic (abortion and freedom)

I find it ironic that the people
here in the US allow our government to treat us like subjects/slaves!

Many congressman are talking about passing legislation which would put women in jail for having an abortion.

Go figure? is the woman the property of the govrnment? Obviously yes since the government seems to be able to do whatever the hell it wants.

What a sad state. So much for individual freedom…

Max

That would be sad. What country are you in?

Since when has putting people in jail been considered making people property? We do it all the time for hundreds of offenses and have since day one of the nation. If the government passes a law outlawing abortions and you break that law then you go to jail…nothing new about that. You can, of course, disagree with that law and try to get it repealed (or not passed in the first place) but it doesn’t make women property. Many people in this country consider a woman choosing an abortion murder and murder is against the law.

[sub]Personally I would hate to see abortion outlawed and I do not agree with the anti-choice crowd.[/sub]

Any many more consider abortion a personal matter which should be left alone to the individual!

As far as I know, no such law is being proposed…so what are you talking about?

Such a law is being considered by many legislators to be introduced after the Ellections (I am in the US).
Do you not watch the news? It was all over CNN, FOX NEW, MSNBC etc.

Do you have a link to the text of the bill?
Hard to debate legislation w/o the legislation.
The Devil’s in the details when it comes to laws.

thanks

Who are these “many” congressmen? Where have they talked about it? In a later message, you say it was all over CNN, Fox, etc. That’s great – then it should be really easy for you to provide a cite.

I’m not sure what AtheistWorld.Com is referring to, but there is currently underway an attempt to pass a law against ‘partial-birth’ abortion.

Even many pro-choice folks would support this one.

Didn’t Bush already sign that one? I think he did.

(Wince) Ugh, now I know how moderate Christians feel when fundies offer up random, poorly researched posts.

This sure is an interesting twist on the de rigeur abortion thread. I’ve never seen this approach before.

I don’t think you know what “ironic” actually means. If every word you posted were 100% true, it still wouldn’t be ironic. It would just suck.

You know, ironic, like in that Toni Morrison song Ironic.

I find it moronic that someone would post a thread such as this one.

I have no doubts such bills have and will be introduced, but I see evidence one is close to passing. Also, the Supreme court still has a say in that, even if one were passed.

Welcome Atheist.

I’m not unsympathetic to your views. Please don’t discredit your point by ignoring the board rules. Read the Moderators post at the top. Does your title in any way suggest the content of your post? Thorough poignant observation, fairness and objectivity will win the day. And I share your righteous indignation, but juxtaposing slavery with a woman’s right to choose in this manner will do little to sway opinion or further this cause. It would be more appropriate to point out that repealing roe vs. wade would be akin to reverting to segregation or a return to allowing slavery. Help us. Be good! Thanks~~~

Okay, so even this is a stretch. The loose point being that it is a backward move in civil rights.

Flame on.

I should have done this earlier – I’m changing the title of this thread to make it more obvious what it’s actually about. For reference, the original title was “I find it ironic that people”

“Anti-choice” seems really to have taken hold on this board. So I take it you would not object to being referred to as pro-abortion? Or can we all extend the common courtesy of referring to people by their typically preferred designation, even if they happen to disagree with you?
