I was given a three-quarter chow, 1/4 something else with the explanation that the breeder was trying to get rid of the litter, for this very reason.

[hijack]Well, if it’s three-quarter chow and one-quarter something else, of course it’s not a purebred. You can’t register a dog that’s not a purebred.

That said, whether a dog is purebred or not has to do with the two specific parents, not with a bitch’s past, ah, partners. Since a bitch can be bred to multiple studs over the course of her lifetime, the AKC doesn’t take that into account when registering a litter. The AKC cares about the puppy’s bitch and stud, period, not any other stud the bitch was bred with.

I don’t see how either of those comments displays a bad attitude from Cecil. The first (stock market jumpers) answer cited is a joke, and I found it funny. The second (missing children) ‘objectionable’ comment was a response to the writers reference to “true” abductions, a category he used to exclude children taken by parents or relatives in domestic disputes. His wording implied that he felt this was not a big deal (not a “true abduction”). That’s where the ‘somehow this is okay’ response comes from.
