I DO get it. That’s the only answer I’ll even begin to accept.

y’know, I just finished watching a flick called “eXisteZ” with Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jude Law. I kinda was hoping for an review of that film after reading your subject line.

Instead I get angst-filled schoolboy crap. Lighten up.

DBCooper, when you find the truth, please send email.

Seriously, I argee with you. Trying to figure out the point of it all is a bit difficult. Is it just to survive? Procreate? Then what? Help others? Then what? Let’s say we make the planet better for the next generation, then what? What will they do?

Do we want to save the earth? For what? Once the Earth is safe, what will happen? If there are 3 trillion more humans in the next 1,000 years is that good? Why?

What happens when we run out of space and food on the planet? Is that even important, since the planet may be a very artificial boundry.

What is so important about the human race, anyway? Why is it called a race, ie where is the finish line?

I’m not sad, or lost. I just don’t think we know all that much of the important stuff about this whole game.

Am I really here by myself? And everyone else around is just a figment of my imagination? Does GaWd actually exist, or did Sam invent the concept?

Well, obvioulsy this can go one for days, but I prefer to go home, have dinner, kiss the wife and kid. That is the only point to any of it that I have been able to understand; small, I know.

I’ve never fully understood that, but it always cheers me up. But I think it’s only half right. Sometimes life sucks. Sometimes life is cool. To be honest, the last two years have been the absolute worst of my life. For some reason, though, I have this brain dead optimism that things will get better. Presumably, age will knock that out of me, and make me jaded, bitter, and cynical. I can’t wait.

Nurlman: hilarious.

There is no meaning of life. Nor does it need one. Be nice because it makes you feel good. Be responsible because it makes you feel like you have a purpose. Do right, becaue it makes you feel right. And sometimes, just sometimes, karma actually works.

Besides, you may as well enjoy your life. Because there’s really only one way out of it, and it ain’t the door.

By the way: Byz, you rock.

Nurlman: That was inspired.

And I agree with FF (scary!) and Byz.

Who said that your life – or life in general – is supposed to have an easy-to-understand, one-sentence or one-paragraph summation as to its meaning?

You’re here. Make yourself comfortable. Try the strudel.

Realize it’s finite, and live it as best you can in the time you have. Treat others as you would wish to be treated, and try to appreciate the (albeit unexplainable) wonders around you.

As I’ve said before on this board: Think back to before you were born. Was it unpleasant? Remember it being terrible? Remember anything at all? Well, worst-case scenario, that’s what you’ll be returning to when this is over. How bad is that?

Your life - our lives - have the cosmic significance of a bubble in a glass of fine pilsener, working its way to the surface before bursting. And why isn’t that OK?

Ya fuckhead. (Hey, this is The Pit.)

Milo: Why is agreeing with me a bad thing? It shows you’re on the right track.

Send me 20 bucks, and I’ll send you a manual. You too can freak like me!

The father of a good friend of mine said

Or something like that.

So how did he kill himself?

NURLMAN – Nice point, and nice post.

COOPER, You, like all of us, have two choices: you can live, or you can die. If you decide you’d rather live, take a look at what it is that makes your life worth living and celebrate and build upon those things. For the vast majority of people who ever lived, life was (and for many still is) a wretched, dirty, painful, tiring struggle to just survive. You are standing on the top of the evolutionary heap, the historical heap (so far as advancement of our species is concerned), and the social heap (so far as economic advantage compared to the rest of the world). Recognize that the life you’ve been given is an enormous gift (or an enormous coincidence in your favor), that just by sitting where you are, reading these words, you have won a cosmic lottery whose odds were incalcuably against you ever existing in the first place. So celebrate that. And if you can’t, go find someone to give you a swift kick in the ass.

Then what the hell is everyone else here for??!!???

FreakFreely – thank you. I like me too!

Hey! No one else is going to come in here and toot my own horn! (If you’d like to, get down on your knees… No, no, a bit to the left… Okay, now, blow, gently!)

Milossarian – are you SURE you’re not me in another time/life frame? Stop imitating me! Someone is going to say you’re my sock puppet!

LonesomePolecat – oh, my, that’s so cute I almost vomited in my shoes instead of yours. Like, HELLO! To help everyone else!

Christ, folks, it’s not that hard to grasp the fundamentals of what I believe. I’m not saying I’m right or that I have the only true way or that I’m so fucking perfect in what I believe… I’m just saying that I’ve looked, read, participated and learned from a LOT of different religions. And the one thing I get, the one true principal that seems to be a part of them all, is this:

Treat other’s the way you wish to be treated.

Christ in a side car! That seems very basic, even if there isn’t a heaven or other life waiting for you. This doesn’t mean you make yourself a doormat for everyone else, this just means be as nice as you can to others. If they treat you like shit, than give them the same in return. Or, do what I have done a few times on this board; KILL them with kindness. Or just rip their stupid ass over the lame points they make.

As Shaw said, do not treat others as you wish to be treated. Their tastes may be different.

You are the greatest, Byz. You are right on the money, as far as I am concerned. Life really would suck if we didn’t help each other out. I need no other purpose in my life than to make things better for other people. And in return? They frequently do things that make my life better, too. We can all help each other and be happier for it, or we can go through life just looking out for ourselves and all be miserable.

Nurlman, you rock. That was awesome.
