EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I am so happy I can’t sit still.
A litle back story. A month ago my mother announced she wanted to buy a second house as an investment and have my roommate (Obsidian) and I live in it. We’ve spent every weekend since looking at open houses and taking tours with our real estate agent after work. We put offers in on two houses but the Bay Area housing market being what it is we lost them both.
On that first weekend Ob and I saw this house. I was a Victorian, built in 1869, the second oldest building in it’s town and one of only two examples of Gothic Revival architecture in the area. It’s breathtaking. But at the time it was way out of our budget -barely even a dream. Until last week when it appeared on our house search at $70,000 less then it’s original asking price. Turns out the diswasher flooded and they had to take it off the market while the floor was being redone. When it came back it was at a lower price and they were taking offers- no bidding war. And no one had offered yet.
On Sunday my mom, Ob and I went to see it. We fell in love. It is literally everything I wanted in a house, and Victorian to boot. (All three of us are history dorks extrodinare.) Mom put in an offer that afternoon. The next morning they gave a counter offer. She agreed and this morning she signed the final contract. Escrow is set to close July 15th. It needs to be tented, painted and have a finish put on the wood floors. We’re hoping to move in the first week in August.
It’s only now starting to sink in. I went on the website to look at the pictures one more time and it was listed as Sale Pending. I squealed in my office. I keep waiting to wake up, because there is no way that I am lucky enough that I get to live in that house. It’s right down the street from where my mother’s parents lived before they died and I am convinced they had a hand in me getting this house. If nothing else I believe in fate. It was the first house we saw on this little adventure. And now it’s going to be tha last.
