I get to marry somebody

Looks like I’ll finally get to put that ULC ordination to work.

Apparantly one of my friends parents thought they were married and it turns out they weren’t. So they’re going thorugh the process now after, oh, 30 years give or take. (Apparantly their state doesn’t recognize common law.) I didn’t catch the whole story, some sort of paper-work snafu that they just now found out about.

I’m not sure what made them think of me, but they called me up and asked if I could do it. I’m pretty stoked about it. I’ve just spent the last hour or so looking up the laws in Washington to make sure I’m completely legal. (The ULC I know is legal, I just want to make sure I’m registered if I need to be, etc.)

Now I just gots to come up with some cool stuff to say at the wedding. (I’m gonna meet with my friend and we’re gonna put something together next week.)

I just can’t believe I get to marry somebody. I’ve been waiting for this ever since I ordained myself.

A ministerial error (i.e., paperwork snafu) does NOT mean they are not married. They need to get a duplicate marriage license and get witnesses to sign it, etc. If they were married in a church, a church marriage certificate will help also.

This is where the, “I didn’t catch the whole story.” part of it comes to play. More to the point, I didn’t quite understand the whole thing. But trust me, they’re not married like they thought they were.

Doesn’t matter anyway…anyone who has been married that long and STILL loves their spouse enough to want to marry them AGAIN deserves another loving ceremony…AND a party!

Congratulations…both to THEM and to YOU!
