I got a letter from Canada today...

eeerm… HE’s moving to Vancouver.

(why do people always think Seven is a girls name? It’s a very manly name.)

The commute from my tiny, tiny apartment to the office is 33 miles. The distance from my house in Birch Bay to downtown Vancouver is about 35 miles.

But I have no clue about how to get a work visa.

Make that three (my daughter)

Linky-poo

The fees are a bummer if they turn you down. They seem to have a pretty good idea at immigration if you’ll get awarded a visa though. Even still, my family and I had a bunch of months of waiting and not hearing anything (which was weird because I felt like I was in a form of limbo).

Our visa is a 36 month skilled worker. We only need it for 6 months or so and then we’ll apply for permanent resident. Well, my wifes employer will.

Soooo…any Canadian women out there want to set up a two-way citizenship exchange?

Congratulations!!

(I’m supressing a groan of jealousy now. I grew up in Saskatoon. Lived there from the age of four through college. My parents still live there, my brother and his family are there. I’m a US citizen, but I used to have landed immigrant status in Canada. Sadly, I let it lapse when I moved to the States and now I would have to go through the whole immigration song and dance to live there again. During moments when I’m feeling really sorry for myself, I sometimes feel like a refugee, barred from living in my home. Mostly, though, I just suck it up and console myself by reading all the Canadian doper threads.)

If Ms. Seven got one, why can’t you? Of course I understand there’d be hoops to go through, and that given the difference in our populations, Canada probably can’t allow everyone from here to immigrate who would like to. But you make it sound like a flat-out impossibility.

I liked Vancouver too when I was there.

That’s it, the SDMB corruption of gigi is complete. I totally read the thread title as “I got a letter from Canadia today…”

I am jealous too. I would love to get away from this President, but I am not very skilled. And I don’t work very hard either.

FWIW, I heard Canada called “Canadia” on some travel channel today.

Congratulations and welcome!

You know, we did a whole big thread about that, and I wasn’t too bugged about it then, but the more I think about it, the more it’s bugging me. My country is not called “Canadia;” it’s name is Canada. If the Canadia thing keeps on, I’ll have to start calling you guys United Statesians again. :stuck_out_tongue:

featherlou, I’d find that entertaining, and frankly more sensible than “Americans”, much like the Spanish word estadounidenses as opposed to americanos.

Yes. Yes it is.

I’ll see your Seven of Nine and raise you a Seven Bundy and a this guy

Of course this page and George Costanza consider it unisex.

Politics are only a minor reason for leaving. I do feel like Canada tries to do right more than the US. They also don’t torture people --so there’s that going for them.
The main drive is family. I only have three people in my extended family (blood related) I have, or want, a relationship with… two of them are Canadian.

I also like Canada’s money better than the USA’s. Say what you might but Loonies, Toonies and colour coded bills make sense.
So on a side note, I get to inventory EVERYTHING I’m taking with me. Anything worth value with a serial number gets noted. Eeegh.
