I got a Tdap shot

Half the fun of a tetanus booster for me has always been bitching and moaning about how awful my reaction to it invariably is (the other half is not dying of tetanus, but that’s not so immediate). For all of my adult life, the shot had always been just tetanus, but last year my doctor recommended the Tdap, since pertussis has become a huge problem in our area. I’m very glad that I’ve had it and that most of my co-workers have as well. One woman I work with is out sick now with pertussis and she’s not allowed to come back until she’s had five days’ worth of antibiotics.

Is that what that was? Right after basic training when they sent us all to tech school, one of the first things we had to do was have a series of roughly 90billion shots in case we were sent overseas.

One of them put my arm out of commission for about a week. It was so sore I couldn’t lift it, and every night after I came back to the dorms after a new series of shots (we had several “sets” one or two a night every night for four or five days IIRC), I’d just fall over dead asleep. I felt like crap for the entire week.

Routine Dr’s visit on Wednesday. Thanks to electronic medical records, as soon as the nurse pulled up my file she knew my tetanus shot had expired! And announced that they’d be giving me another unless I had some objection, which I did not! Kind of impressive as no way would I have remembered on my own. Slightly sore for a day or so, no biggie! (Worst shot ever? Yellow fever-yikes!)

This. Right there. Hurt like a bitch as it was going man did it burn. Then the big hard red throbbing apple sized lump that came up on my arm meant I couldn’t bear anything brushing past my arm never mind touching it or rolling over on it in my sleep. The nurse asked me if I was right or left handed be fore she did it and it was a good job she did as I had barely any use of my left arm for about 5 days. Ow.

Had my TDap last spring for immigration and felt the crud for a day or so.

Have not had the anthrax but by the sounds of it I was just being a wuss with the Yellow Fever compared to that so I hope I never have to.
