Well, I got back in touch with HR yesterday.
I told the twit that I checked the employee handbook and found that in some cases, someone who doesn’t meet standards after the ninety day evaluation period can get a thirty-day extension, and I didn’t even get the ninety days.
I also pointed out to her that nobody had ever told me that my performance was unsatisfactory, or that anything I was doing was creating a problem. If I had been told there was a problem, I would have corrected it, and if there were any misunderstandings, they could have been cleared up.
She told me that the normal procedure was to let the employee know if there was a problem and give them the opportunity to improve. Unless they felt that in my case there was some reason they couldn’t follow the normal procedure.
I can’t imagine that I did anything so heinous that they would feel that it was necessary to cut me loose without giving me the opportunity to improve. The HR twit said there were “several things” but didn’t seem to be able to tell me what these “things” were. I would think if I had done anything that awful, the shift boss would have been able to tell me exactly why I was being fired.
The good news is, I’m in line for a job at another casino. I’ve done the drug test already, and they don’t send you for the drug test unless they actually want to hire you. I probably would have been hired last week, but there were some people who had been transferred to other properties the company owns, and for some reason needed to be transferred back, and in-house people get priority. Which is only right, I guess. Anyway, the gal that does the hiring told me that she does want to hire me, and that she hopes to have me in there within the next couple of weeks.
Meanwhile, I’m going to temp. Try to get the agency to place me in a joint with a friendly atmosphere. I have the casino picked out already. The money’s not good, but at this point, as long as I’m not completely without an income, I need a friendly work environment more than I need money.
