I got me a plumbing problem.

Bathroom floor half jackhammered-up. Tub gone. Vanity gone. Toilet gone. Plumbers did this, replaced bad pipes in cement apron house is built on. Left me a pipe, heading towards where the tub/shower had been. Said pipe is capped properly.

I am thinking I will put in a shower. ( Opposed to hiring them to do so ). Here’s the questions.

  1. Once I cut away a bit more cement, I will be able to extend the new pipe over to place it directly under the drain hole in the new shower enclosure I’m buying. How do I extend said pipe UP to meet bottom of drain?

  2. What method do I use to physically attach said pipe extension to bottom of drain? Or, do I set up the extension and rest the floor of shower with drain piece extended out from underneath and just…rest it into place? A la what one does to seat a toilet with the wax ring, I mean.

  3. How do I lock down that connection, if I do drop the pipe in from above? The floor of the shower is in the way, and below the pipe ( and all around the pipe ) is dirt.

Proceeding with caution but believing I can do this, I await the wisdom of the Dopers.
