I got my Howard back.

My house is the American address for my sister, my cousin’s husband, and my cousin’s husband’s buddy. Sirius seems to not care that four subscriptions’ paperwork come to my house.

I have a little trouble getting clean information at their website. I only listen to radio in my office. Do they have a portable unit? How’s the reception inside office visits? The only thing keeping me alive is Adam Corolla on a local Seattle station, but that’s only 4 hours a day - then I’m a sad, sad designer for the rest of the work day…
Got a bonus at work yeaterday, and I’m ready to get me Howard back, too! Help?

Sirius has a “Sportster” Boombox model. Supposedly, they’ll have a starmate model coming soon. I have no idea how well they work, but they are out there.
Price was around $150 give or take.

Howard announced today, Feb 1st, that Sirius Canada WILL be carrying Howard 100 as of next week. There was speculation as to how long he would last, but
Sirius smarttened up and will be carrying it. I guess they realized just how many
people were getting the American feed.

See my above posts. Yes, there are several portable units. What I do is play my Sportster through an FM signal on my car radio and through a boom box in the office. I’m listening to Howard right now in my office. They also have a boom box doc for portable units.

Oh, greeat, this is just what I was looking for! So the Sportster is a Boombox, right? You say the Sportster has to be played through another boombox? What about the little $349 portable unit? Can you use that without buying any other equipment? Sorry to be such a Luddite, but the information I’m finding online seems a little vaugue, and I always try to find things out without being pressured by salespeople.

Thanks for all the help, by the way! How are you enjoying Howard in his new format?

I’m enjoying the new format, greatly. As I said, I have had no way of listening to Howard for the last six years. He seems much happier. Don’t miss Jackie (F Jackie)
or Stuttering John. Artie seems like a good replacement for Jackie. It’s still a giggle
to hear them be able to say what they want without having to worry about the FCC. Other than that…it’s the same (fun) show.

I have a window in my office so I put the antenna on the window sill. In my house, our bedroom is on the top floor, and when I first hooked up the home unit, I got very good reception with the antenna nowhere near the window. I did, however, notice better reception with the antenna by the window in both locales.

The Sportster is just a receiver but you can buy the associated boombox dock. I did not. It comes with a car dock and then you just set the FM frequency on the receiver and car radio (mine is 90.1). Then I bought the (much cheaper) home dock and did the same thing with the FM frequency at work with a boom box I already had. The only problem I have is when a client sits next to it on the one side and causes interference. Then I tell their counselor to hurry up because their client is giving me static.

Buying the sportster’s boombox is easier I’m sure, but it’s more expensive.

Oh, and I’m enjoying Howard but sometimes feel the need to bail in the office. My boss is cool, but she’s 66 and was, at one time, a nun, so I feel weird. One time she was standing near the radio and all of a sudden said "Ooh! They just said ‘suck his cock’ ".

I never missed a day of Howard, love Artie, don’t miss the Jokeman. He was on their second to last terrestrial show though and I did enjoy him. And I agree, Howard seems very happy and is being a very good sport about the other stations. Please note: he’s not commercial free!

I have the boombox. It works ok. However, it can be very difficult to get a signal inside. The antenna really needs to be close to a window. In most offices, it is going to be very difficult to get a signal at all.

Sirius does not have a portable unit if you mean something like a walkman. The only thing they have like that is a playback unit not live broadcasts. One of the reasons I decided to go with XM is that their technology is ten times better. They have a portable unit now that you can listen to live broadcasts. Within a month or so (it was at CES) they are coming out with a portable radio that is also a MP3 player. It’s supposed to be a little bigger than an IPOD. So far Sirius is way behind in that department.
