I got myself a new camera - Come look at my pictures!

I’ve finally decided to invest in a camera. I got myself a sweet Nikon D40. I’ve never had an SLR before, though I did do a bit of photography back in high school. This camera’s way better than I am. I hope I get better.

Here’s a few photos from the last few days.

It’s mostly macro stuff. And some hot-air ballooning stuff (though not much of it, most of my pictures from that activity, you really had to be there).

Where can I find a good tutorial for a D40? I’d like to learn a little more. I’ve really only used the “auto” and “macro” settings. I’d like to learn to do some HDR photography.

I want to get a specific macro lens, and also something with a little more zoom. Can anyone recommend a good all-purpose lens with a good zoom?

There are groups on Flickr which specialise in almost everything, including particular cameras. A search for Flickr groups interested in the Nikon D40 Search: Nikon D40 | Flickr turns up quite a lot of them.

There are also groups for beginners, e.g., http://www.flickr.com/groups/290591@N25/ , Flickr: The Beginners Digital Photography: Tips_Tricks_Hints Pool and Flickr: The Digital Photography School Pool

And there’s a group for SDMB people: Flickr: The SDMB meets Flickr Pool

Awesome, I just joined a whole bunch of those groups, I didn’t know Flickr had such a thing.
