I was cycling early this morning and doing quite an intense (exertion level) ride. A bit more than an hour into the ride on a fairly tough hill I was really on the move and for the last third of it or so I could barely get air in my lungs I was going for it so hard. Coasting down the other side I became acutely aware that I was feeling very chilled. The air temp was around 19-21C, and of course I was sweating like a horse by this time but I’ve never experienced this chill effect before (I was not being "over"cooled by sweat, it was an internal sort of cold). The chills got so bad I pulled over and sat on a rock until I felt normal again (about 5-10 mins later). While sitting I had goosebumps on my arms so severe that all the hairs were standing straight up - never seen that before! I had felt a little light-headed clmbing the hill, but not unusually so considering the effort I was putting in.
What happened to me? I’ve been cycling for several years, and as I said, never had anything like this. I felt weak after that and I was pretty much done anyway so I beelined it home.
And yes I’m aware about the deal with SD and medical advice, but I’m fairly sure my local quack will offer no helpful insight and just take my BP and heartrate and tell me I’m healthy and not to overdo it. Can anyone here do better?
