Just wanted to pat myself on the back. I received one of those E-Bay scams saying I had to update my info. After checking with E-bay that they didn’t send the mail, I contacted the ISP that was hosting the site. After speaking to someone there and showing him the site that asked for your E-Bay name and passowrd, Pay Pal name and password, Bank Account, Credit Card, Drivers Licence, Socal Security numbers he asked me to foward him a copy of the mail which I did. I then heard back from them that they canceled the accout for violations of their AUP.
I know they can get a new account elsewhere and do it again, but if I saved one person a problem I did my good deed.
Good for you MannyL! Way to pay attention. I think I may have gotten one of those e-mails myself, but didn’t reply to it. Now I know I can just delete it!
I reported one of these to PayPal - with the note that I’d never had a PayPal account, so I was certain it was fake.
I didn’t receive any notice that an account had been shut down, but I did receive a lovely (form) e-mail thanking me and informing me that it was under investigation.
Hopefully they were able to shut one of them down anyway.
Good on you, MannyL.
