Bell Book and Candle was another romantic comedy about a modern-day witch and a mortal who fall in love. Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak are good together, but the movie is almost stolen by her eccentric relatives, including Elsa Lanchester as her eccentric aunt and Jack Lemmon as a young beatnik warlock.
I remember the episode when Mrs. Bellows (Dr. Bellow’s wife) discovered Jeannie, in full harem girl outfit. Mrs. Bellows immediately presumed that (1) Jeannie and Nelson were secretly married, and (2) That Nelson was keeping Jeannie in an abusive relationship. Mrs. Bellows’ advice to Jeannie was “you need a divorce!”

Oh come on, people! That stuff was bigtime on these shows.
Just look at Petticoat Junction.
Three young, beautiful single women with no visible means of support, living at “The Shady Rest” hotel at a train stop. Swimming naked in the water tank with their clothing hanging over the side for advertisement. A Madam and a sleazy “Uncle Joe” (yeah, sure) taking care of them.
Just what the hell do you think that show was about? ![]()

One more data point in your favor: where were they swimming naked? Hooterville!
