I had to take a photo of a photo...

I used to post on here years ago but wandered off when something shiny elsewhere caught my eye…

So for no reason whatsoever I’ll fill you in on some info necessary for this post.

Since the late 1990s I have been looking after my parents, my father was physically disabled and had heart disease, he was given a pacemaker way back when that caused him to have a massive heart attack. Around the same time my mother fell over - she didn’t do herself any physical damage but she developed a phobia of sorts and hasn’t been able to walk properly since, so I became their Carer.

In the subsequent years Da’s health deteriorated badly and D’Mother became unbearable to live with. A few years back Da developed some form of Dementia, and just over 18 months ago he passed away.

D’Mother had a personality transplant and turned into a nice person, so I have remained on as her Carer.

About 8 or 9 months ago she suddenly started acting ‘odd’, she didn’t know where she was and kept asking to be taken home… doctor was called out, he looked at her said “sure, she’s looking grand” took her pulse, said she was fine and left.

I’d doctors out to her three times before one referred her on to a geriatrician (we finally saw her in April of this year)

Meanwhile the confusion over where she was had gone, and was replaced by something else - she thought what was happening on television was happening for real in the corner of the room, or out in the front garden. I had to restrict her television viewing to a sports channel - which was the only thing she wouldn’t have hysterics at. She’ll watch American Dad and Family Guy quite happily, presumably because they’re cartoons (?)

This has progressed on now to her talking to photos in magazine and newspapers - she thinks they are people who’ve come to visit, which is great cos she keeps herself company talking to her “friends” all day long

Obviously she has Dementia, I (and my doctor) are of the opinion that she’s had a small stroke, well more than one. She’s had a CT scan done, and we’re waiting to hear what the results of that are.

This evening she asked me to take a photo of this man - there is a photo of some golfer on the back page of the paper, and she wanted me to take a photo of him “before he goes home” (ie I throw the paper in the recycling)

Of all the crazy things she’s said in the last few months (including threatening to have me arrested for moving our house to another street) this has to be the craziest one yet!
