I think it’s being fueled by Gen-Xers who found their parents’ original albums as teenagers and went through a massive Beatles phase. I know it wasn’t just me - the Beatles were huge among my peer group around 1990-1992.
My son and all his friends are huge Beatles fans. He’s in his mid-20’s.
I wonder how that is applied to the The.
I must admit that I also like Styx better than The Beatles (and, yes, I capitalized “The”).
I personally have a big problem with Beatles fans because when the linkages between the beetles and the electric motor fail, you get a room littered with bugs
I keep seeing the thread title and thinking:
“I Hate ___ (Anything) ___ Fans”
I’m fine with someone saying “I really like The Shaggs.” Or “Of all Bieliebers twice his age, I’m the biggest!”
Or, even less defensible, something like:
But we’ve all known The True Fanatic. Might be worshipping Klezmer bands, or Tony Robbins… or “Floyd, maaaan…”, like my friend Feeney (which was odd, because we were just kids, and back then we could only get like two of their albums in the midwest).
I had a college student who broke down in tears because she couldn’t get a signal and missed Taylor Swift announcing a new single. Her friends, no, the whole world!, knew about it five minutes before she did. She was inconsolable and couldn’t stop sobbing for almost an hour.
See, this is why the world has never seen my genius. Because if they did, I’d be invited on a talk show, and as I was sneaking out the stage door, some Brunhilda would rush me, screaming “I’m your biiiiiggest fan!!!” and I’d panic: “Lady, you need therapy. Security? Get me out of here!”
