I just bought a new router so I could use my laptop throughout the house. Salesman swore all I had to do was plug it in and go.
Yeah, right.
So I open the package and big black envelope says, “Use This Disk First”. So I used that disk first.
Tells me to unplug modem and plug into router.
OK.
Now take new plug from box, put into back of router and then into the laptop. Hmm. Thought this was wireless, but OK.
Did that too.
Little disk whirs and whirs and then says, “OK, you are now set up.”
Unplug the wire, to make it, uh…wireless and have no connection.
I beat myself up doing these steps over and over again until yesterday I just about threw everything out the window.
As I have learned over the years, just shut it off and go to bed and worry about it the next day.
So next day again, tried and tried. Nothing.
So then I hooked up normal wire connection and found the help website and clicked on a download that was called, “How to set up your laptop to work wireless.”
You would think that would be a feature they might have included on their disk.
I clicked on that download.
Five minutes later, everything worked.
However, nothing mentioned this nice little feature on the disk that came with the router, no mention of a website and there was no manual in the box. I wondered how many other people went through this same circus.
I hate it when simple instructions are anything but simple.
