I hate it when people pit the mods/admins.

I have, frequently. In the case of newbies, I have seen mods close or move threads while including a “welcome to the boards” and a friendly suggestion to check the forum descriptions and the FAQ.

I’ve at least two or three in the past month alone, by Dex and Cajun man

You’ve either missed these, or have a highly selective memory.

Well, here’s a mod who has rescinded their group decision regarding magic not too long ago:

I definitely don’t have a selective memory so I probably missed them. Did they reopen the threads in those cases? The only time I’ve seen a position change on a thread closing was when manhattan closed my thread about “What does the Geneva Convention dictate as SOP when taking a POW is not a reasonable option.” It had become a bit of an argument about the ethics of various alternatives and manhattan closed it on the basis that the factual question was answered/ or that there was no factual answer. I guess he got a lot of emails about it because it was a popular and interesting (If I say) thread and he said he would reopen it but under conditions of civility among the participants. I thought that was pretty cool.

I don’t have much experience with Dex or Cajun Man, nor do I see them in the pit much where contested thread closings move into the spotlight. If you remember the threads, point them out because I could do with spying some goodwill these days.

I don’t really think that they are missing meals or losing sleep worrying about what we, strangers for the most part, think of them.

So sorry that I can’t join you in this praise for more then obvious and more then justified reasons.

Salaam. A

I can’t decide which animal metaphor is more appropriate for you Alde, the sleeping dog or the dead horse. You know what, I’ll let you pick.

Yes, they reopened them. Lobsang opened six poll threads about Creedence Clearwater Revival in Cafe Society, that at first looked to Dex like spam. He reopened them when he found out that similar threads had been permitted in the past. Do a search on Creedence if you really want to find them/

Cajun Man closed this thread on the grounds that it looked like homework, and re-opened it when persuaded it was not.

There also was a recent thread about how to do a certain magic trick that was at first closed by TubaDiva due to supposed copyright issues. I don’t believe the original thread was re-opened, but a new one on the same subject was allowed.

That’s news to me. You confusing me with someone else?

My apologies. It was JohnBckWLD.

I was confused by the similarities of your names.

Yeah that happens all the time.

It just struck a nerve when I saw this

(titled “Nice fucking upgrade”)
Fine way to thank the admins for trying to do us a favour and give us a potentially better server. And it also irked me that the OP obviously hadn’t bothered to read the announcement in full, explaining that there would be a good reason for the temporary slowness.

It irked me enough to make a new thread about it. And as I was drunk I was a bit liberal with the mod praise.

The moderators here actually enforce the freaking rules and respond to problems. That alone puts them above at least 99.99% of the moderators I’ve had to deal with. (For example, the GameFAQs boards are now completely out of control anarchic hellholes thanks to the drunken comatose waste-of-oxygen mods. Just felt the need to point that out again.)

You want to flame and troll and spam like a psychopath, there are HUNDREDS of freaking websites where you can do that. (Did I mention GameFAQs? And Madman’s Cafe. Madman’s Cafe has never deleted a post for any reason.) Here, you act like a human being. Period.

Unless, of course, you’re just trying to start something with a mod for your own petty reasons. That, unfortunately, I can’t help you with.
