"I hate Mondays"

Well, I hate the Dodger’s more than I hate Monday’s.

Not really. I cheated and looked at your avatar, although I am a Giant’s fan

Same here. Since when does it mean anything more than “Shit, I hate having to leave my fun weekend and go back to the office every damn Monday”?

I hate Mondays, so see you next Tuesday.

And, of course, Rick Monday played for and works for the Dodgers, so you’ve got double the incentive! On the other hand, Rick Monday is white…

This is all so very confusing!

Let’s not leave out the heretofore closet racists The Bangles and The Mamas and The Papas.

Oh, c’mon. It has always been obvious. “All the leaves are BROWN”?!? You knew what they were sayin’.

I’ve heard of this (both Mondays and Canadians) but I’ve never actually heard anyone actually use it.

One I have seen is the silent touch. That’s where somebody will say something like, “Well, you know what his problem is” and then they’ll touch their arm or the back of their hand or their cheek.

What a coincidence, because Monday is also a secret term for asshole cowardly racists who use code words to hide their hatred, and expose their stupidity.

“And the sky is grey” is obviously talking about biracial people.

Fleetwood Mac liked Monday Morning.

I thought he didn’t like murderers.

Sounds like another “picnic” viral mail. If we had an actual example, we could send it to Snopes, or at least research its claims. But without that…

ETA: I reread the OP, and apparently it’s out there. Is there an origin claim that’s common to them all?

I actually don’t hate Mondays. They are the quiet day after the weekend, before the super busy Tuesdays and the fairly busy rest of the week.

Cass and Michelle were talking about “jungle love?”

Monday Monday, so good to me,
Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would be

Maybe it’s because they got knocked up?

But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
You can find me cryin’ all of the time

I’ve heard it. Both Mondays (because everyone hates Mondays) and Canadians (because they don’t tip). I thought it was a restaurant thing- a way to say racist things without getting in trouble. I’ve never heard it used in regular life, though I have heard one particular server bitch a lot about black tables not tipping him. He just lowers his voice and calls them “black people”, though.

The funny thing, in my opinion, is that Mondays in restaurants are the best days. It means the specific nightmare that is a weekend working in a popular restaurant is over. Usually, they’re a bit more relaxed and you can catch up and get things done and leave at a reasonable hour. I look forward to Mondays. It’s Saturdays that can really kiss my ass.

For people who have normal jobs and live like humans, though, I’ve always heard it to mean (as far as I know, anyway) the day of the week- they don’t want to go back to work or school.

The funny thing is, a couple of years before the Garfield strip got into the “I hate Mondays” thing in a big way, one of the early strips had Garfield’s thought balloon saying: “I love Mondays. Know why? Because I don’t have to get up and go to work.”

I always thought that was much more in keeping with the logic (such as it was) of the strip.

I have heard the Canadians one in a restaurant context, but never “I hate Mondays”.
A bit off topic, but when restaurant staff complain about “kids”, especially in a non-child-friendly establishment, they are almost always referring to rats.

When I started reading your post, I was thinking “I have never heard of this crazy thing before in my life.” But as I was reading, it started to sound vaguely familiar, as if someone else had once told me something similar.

So maybe I have heard it before – not having actually heard it used out in the wild, but more like someone telling me a bizarre trivia fact.

I feel like maybe it is related to the hand gesture that is sometimes used to indicate black people - that passing a hand in front of the face (is there a name for that?). Like if someone said “I don’t like Mondays” while doing the hand thing, then you would know it’s meant as code?

What’s the worst day of the week that gets us all depressed?

M-O-N-D-A-Y S-U-C-K-S

Monday sucks! (Monday sucks!) Monday sucks! (Monday sucks!)

I’ve never said “I hate Mondays” or heard it used in any way other than to express distaste for that particular day of the week.

Why am I always the last one to get the memos?!
