You didn’t look her in the eye and say ‘swap partners’ and then take her husband’s hand?
Happy Birthday! Celebrate the way you want to.
My birthday falls in the first week of April. Growing up in a very Catholic family that meant no birthday parties since we can’t celebrate when Jesus is about to die. And if my birthday fell on Good Friday or Holy Saturday then my birthday “celebration” was delayed because Jesus was killed and still in his tomb.
Now that I’m older I get to do anything I want on my birthday which is usually a nice dinner with my wife and a movie from Redbox. We also go to dinner with my parents since it was their night of passion that got me here. This year I’m trying to avoid dinner with my in-laws since last year my MIL chose the restaurant because my choices were “different” and she doesn’t like “different.”
While I can’t compete with that, at least the OP was born on a “happy” day for Irish folks. Being born into an Irish-Catholic family on November 22, 1963 cast a long shadow of darkness over my birthday for many years. I can recall whispering my birth date when asked as a child.
Oh, I bet. My little cousin is like that, born on 9/11.
If you don’t enjoy going to bars on your birthday…why not not go to a bar on your birthday? Go to a nice dinner or something instead, or hold your celebration on a more convenient day.
Why does everyone and their dog know your birthday anyway? I can’t think of any people I’m not related to who know my birthday off the top of their heads, and I’m not inclined to remind them.
There is an easy way to avoid crowds on St. Patrick’s Day. Go to a Mexican restaurant. Or barring that, a nice Chinese place. You’d be surprised how little the wait will be.
