I hate the way I look.

Pics.

Sorry about the new one, don’t have the camera available and had to use the phone.

Yes, it’s a crap photo, but it’s the best I can do until I get the camera back later today.

Then you are under-qualified. Either apply youself to getting qualified forthwith, or get yourself to a location where that qualification is not required. Stop blaming your failings on Latinos.

Aside from the mug-shot aspect of the second photo, you look good.

First off, I’ve never bought the line that the media dictate standards of attractiveness, for men or women. This is, in my observation, the refrain of people who don’t take care of themselves and insist that people should find them irresistible anyway. I think it’s much more accurate (and sensible) to say that the media reflect what people already find attractive. The sole interest of advertisers and entertainers is to appeal to as many people as possible, not to launch a social revolution or be politically correct by pretending everyone is beautiful.

With regard to your beard, was it a full beard or a goatee? I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but I find a goatee to be a stylish enhancement to almost any man’s appearance. OTOH, a full beard almost always looks ridiculous - especially on a 28-year-old. Unless you’re Santa Claus, a full beard is far from flattering.

Edit: Just saw your pics. You do look better without the beard. A goatee might strengthen your chin and give you the touch of distinction you desire.

What’s the problem with any of those quotes? it happens to be true, at least in my experience.

  1. At the moment, companies are pinching hard and saving money by using illegal labor. That has dried up the job pool. The fact that they are Latinos is irrelevant, I’d be just as annoyed if they were Germans.

  2. Because they have all moved to same area to feel more comfortable no doubt, the companies make the logical step and are only hiring bi-linguals. Why exclude half your customer base? Doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck for everyone else who lived here before and had no reason to learn that particular language.

  3. See above.

Glad you think so, I can’t stand it. I think I look like I’m twelve.

Well, Acid Lamp, I for one, empathize with what you’re feeling. Sometimes you just want to vent and any target seems like a good one. Vent away! And after you’ve finished get your self back together and good luck with the job hunt! You never know where or when luck will show itself.

By the way, you look better without the beard, IMHO.

That’s employed shit-slathered necrotic donkey cock eating cherry picking fuckwit to you.

Seeing as we are in normal working hours, mid-week, shouldn’t you be doing something other than crying on a message board blaming your problems on Latinos? Something like, you know, trying to find a job?

You’ll get used to it. Hate to say it, but your beard was pretty scraggly in the “before” pic and if that’s the way it was all the time, you’re better off without it.

Nothing like kicking a man when he’s down, huh?

Tuesdays/Thursdays I give Historic Ghost tours. I have to mind the reservations online and contact the clients. If I get enough, I have a tour and make some money. I use them as my day off.

No dog in the rest of the fight, but your beard looked kinda weird. You look better without it. However a closer trimmed beard might, both, look better than the original and still be ‘bearded’ enough for your taste.

Clearly, just my personal opinion, YMMV, etc. and you didn’t look bad before.

He’s not “harping on illegals”; getting a job in southwestern Central Florida all but requires Spanish proficiency. Fact of life.

Acid Lamp, you look better without the beard. That’s what I call a student beard, because you can only get away with it as a student, unless you are planning on fighting in the Sierra Maestra Mountains.

Muffin, realistically, I can’t imagine spending more time than that applying especially in an economy like Central Florida’s where there just aren’t that many jobs.

**Muffin **is just looking to pick a fight, plain and simple.

Agreed on both counts.

Acid, if I were you, I’d keep the beard off. I can see why you miss it though, it must’ve taken you a long time to grow.

Also, yeah, if there are, say, 200 jobs available in central FL and you’ve applied to them all and any new ones that pop up, how are you supposed search harder? Relocation is certainly an option, but some people can’t relocate, y’know?

First off, I like your face better with no beard.

I live in Central Florida (lake mary) and work in Central Florida (Altamonte springs) and have lived here most of my life.

I know things suck right now. (I’m very grateful to be employed.) What I’ve always heard is that one of the best ways to find employment is networking. That means reaching out to friends, friends of friends and maybe even strangers from an internet message board and see who knows of something in your area.

What’s your area of expertise? What specific part of town are you hoping to work in (I know all about I-4 sucks majorly)? If you don’t want to post all of that you can always send me a private message but I know that there are a bunch of central floridians on the SDMB and maybe one of us knows about something or knows someone who knows someone. Let’s network.

Not too long, about 8 months from the current q-ball status. Mostly I miss the way it framed out my chin and jaw line, and accentuated my cheekbones, which are about the only part of my face I like. Also my nose didn’t look so big to me.

You know, surfing the web and running a job search aren’t two mutually exclusive activities.

Yeah, but you scapegoated them. And guess what? I was in mortgage. I worked my ass off for 5 years to get to a damn well-respected and well-paying position within the industry (not sales), and I have been laid off twice since the downturn started and am currently unemployed. I have a mortgage, two car payments, and a baby on the way (3 things it sounds like you don’t have, or do you?), so I think I understand. And guess how many fucking nanoseconds I’ve spent blaming my problems on immigrants? You’re the one that needs to shut the fuck up.

Awesome, and many thanks.

I don’t mind posting.

My primary area of expertise is art, specifically sculpture. I have done work for the theme parks in the past, and also built props for special events etc. I live in Kissimmee but would be willing to commute as far as Altamonte for the right pay. I done basic carpentry, fiberglassing, molding, casting, special effects and cinematic make-up. (No glamour or wedding make-up I’m afraid)

I also have good sales and interior design experience, but do not have a cert in Interior design. Otherwise, I’ve also had longer term jobs over the years working as an electrician’s helper, a plant nursery consultant, and co-owned an exotic pet store, and managed a SPIRIT halloween outlet.

On the most basic level, I’m physically strong and healthy, on time, well spoken, and have a good attitude while at work. I learn fast and retain and apply what I’ve been taught quickly.

Right now I’m looking for anything that will pay. I’m leery of commission sales because the economy is so poor that I won’t have the numbers of clients needed to turn a decent living. Otherwise, I’ll do anything so long as the pay is commensurate with the commute.
