Bit of a stir at the local cop-shop this week: Elderly woman with grenade and guns caused excitement for Regina police.

An elderly woman caused some excitement at the Regina Police Service (RPS) headquarters Thursday morning when she brought in box of items she found while cleaning — including two antique hand guns and a vintage hand grenade.

RPS Staff Sgt. Darcy Koch said that at approximately 9:45 a.m. a woman in her late 80s or early 90s turned over the items for disposal.

She seems to have been rather cool about it all:

He said the woman had no idea if the grenade was live or how old it was but she said the vintage handguns were from the Boer War.

And, in the true pioneer spirit, she originally hadn’t planned to bother the police about it at all:

He said the woman had initially planned to take the items to the city landfill but decided to stop by police headquarters instead.

It’s a shame the guns will probably be destroyed. There are collectors who would want them and pay a lot for them.
