I forgot one word of advice…
Get the soup.
Seriously, get the soup.
Both the turtle soup and the lobster bisque are fantastic.
The turtle soup gets a nice shot of sherry to finish that really makes it shine.

Have never eaten there…(I am one of those rare meat eaters who HATE steak), but I just popped in here to mention the name of the restaurant - Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.
It just makes my jaw hurt to say it aloud, and makes me sound like I have a lisp…those “S’s” just don’t seem to slide off my tongue well.
I have heard they are quite good though…so, Bon Apetit!
I just checked their appetizer menu and they don’t have sushi as a choice. They have seared Ahi Tuna but that isn’t sushi.
They were sort of forced into it. The original restaurant was founded in New Orleans by Chris Matulich and he called it, simply enough, the Chris Steak House.
A few decades later, the restaurant was purchased by Ruth Fertel. She kept the name Chris Steak House because by now it had an established reputation.
But ten years later, Fertel wanted to move the business to a better location. However the terms of her contract had been that the Chris Steak House could only be operated at the original location. So Ruth Fertel had to change the name in order to move. She still wanted to maintain the connection with the original business so she named the new restaurant Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
Having adopted this new name, Fertel was free to open other new locations and this is when the restaurant began to expand into a chain.
When they say the plate is hot, trust them, the plate is HOT! Don’t touch it with your bare hands!
Every steakhouse I’ve been to, including RC, has the ‘Porterhouse for x’ option (usually 2-4). Sharing is not tacky; it’s encouraged.
This is a pet peeve? :dubious:
Sure, if you want to be hopelessly pedantic about it, sushi is any dish served with sushi (vinegared) rice. It is most commonly, but not exclusively, served with raw fish. So someone who does not eat raw fish is most likely not going to be tempted by sushi, including the combinations that do not include raw fish or other types of seafood.
You’re thinking of Don Pablos.
Does anyone else find the name “Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse” irritatingly formed?
RC does it too. They heat the plate to scorching, and put some butter in there for some sizzle (and flavor). They’re not cast iron fajita skillets, but some type of heat resistant ceramic or ceramic-like substance.
Yep. I understand why it has that name, but I don’t like it one bit. Luckily, there are dozens of world-class steak houses in this area to choose from and I don’t have to eat there.
There’s also your own kitchen. That’s not “eating out”, but I’d rather hold the $200 in one hand, a fork in the other, and pretend my wife is a hot waitress.
Yes, it is a pet peeve. Why the face?
It matters to me because many people make the “eww, gross, raw fish” if you even mention sushi. Some of my favorites are maki rolls with vegetables or sushi with cooked shrimp or broiled eel.
So, if more people realized its not about raw fish they might try it and find they enjoy it. Or at least stop saying things like “its gross” or “I’d never eat that, I don’t like raw fish”.
Pedantic doesn’t just mean nitpicky. In this case, I feel the inaccuracy actually has a negative impact.
It’s a high-end example of the “Jumbo Happy Clown Burger” problem in restauranting - a name so stupid people are embarrassed to actually say it. You can say “Morton’s” or even “Outback” without a flinch or a grimace, but “We’re going to Chris Ruth’s Ruthsteak Chrishouse” is embarrassingly lumpy even if you get it right.
Most people I know (I lived near one) just said “I’m going to Ruth’s Chris this weekend”.
Not that I’m miffed or anything, but this post is a hundred times more helpful and informative than you previous post. I actually learned something here. Your previous post just left me wondering what you were “peeved” about.
Again, no bad feelings, just saying…
I’m sorry my previous post came off as just a snarky “one-off”. You’re right- I could have actually tried for something more helpful. Thanks for saying this one did help!
I’m more peeved at people that dismiss it as icky before trying it than people who characterize sushi as raw fish.
I used to be one of “those” people, as I didn’t really understand was sushi was. I’m sure a lot of folks were rolling their eyes in my wake. We hit the neighborhood sushi cart at least once a week for California rolls or tempura rolls, fried green beans, or any number of other non-raw dishes they serve.
You had access to a neighborhood sushi cart? That sounds amazing! Tempura rolls (esp sweet potato tempura) are one of my favorites… Seriously jealous. Why were they rolling their eyes? Nothing wrong with maki rolls/sushi with cooked items.
