I have a friend who has only been on the internet for 6 months, what should I show..?

I don’t get your point. Sure, the World Wide Web is only one part of the internet, but that doesn’t invalidate Cisco’s claim in any way.

Ya know, I was gonna say that, but decided, “no, it’s not classy”.

:dubious:

I feel horrible, but my first answer was going to be, ‘indoor plumbing?’ Seriously though it might help to understand what’s kept him away for so long. What’s this person’s level of technical expertise and experience with computers otherwise?

I’d suspect that for someone that new to the internet would find sites like xkcd or slashdot incomprehensible. eBay may be too complicated to begin with, show him Amazon first.

Where’s that site with the history of internet memes?

Before anything else: getfirefox.net and adblockplus.org
hypem.com
garfieldminusgarfield.net

:stuck_out_tongue: I never thought I would laugh at a bunch of cakes before! :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s something for everyone on that guy with the glasses, Nostalgia Critic and Nostalgia Chic are particularly LOL-worthy. In a similar vein there’s the Angry Video Game Nerd, great for someone who’s into games.

Just don’t… for the love of God… show him the top 11 theme songs one. Duck Tails Woo-ooo it will never leave it will NEVER LEAVE! ahem (Also, you should’ve posted in my thread on him  :p)

Depending on his tolerance for certain types of humor cracked.com is good, there’s stuff for everyone but some of it is pretty crude so depending on his tastes he may have to wait a bit for a good article. (Look for ones by David Wong, former webmaster of Pointless Waste of Time, his articles are golden).

There’s always Something Awful… depending on his tastes. It has a LOT of crap though so you have to dig, the Let’s Play goldmine/archive in their forums is always a good place to start if he’s into video games from any era.

Your thread is where I first learned of him, Jragon.

Really… How do you not go near the net until a few months ago? Its been around for a while now… My grandparents, at 81 years old and not fully being aware that you don’t have to check your e-mail at specific times (that was an interesting conversation… they assumed it was “closed” at some hours)… My granddad got hooked on golf and anti-democrat newsletters and my grandma figured out that recipes were on the thing. Even they have been on the internetz here and there.
