I have an odd weekly feature in my college paper now. Ideas and honest opinions pls

make a strategic decision first–is this a serious column or a “Weird clayton” column.

Being weird might be more fun, and easier (nobody will hold you to serious standards of journalism, )
But being serious might make for a better resume, with articles that you could proudly show to employers. The wheel chair for a day(or longer) would be a good start.Volunteering for charities, drug-rehab centers, the hospital emergency room, the garbage collecters, etc could make a good human interest column.

You could spend 24 hours on a park bench…

I really like this idea.

Chap, I’m going to do both the odd and the serious. I’ll do some interesting things the average person might not have done like rock climbing, ice fishing etc… and I’ll do the strange out there kinda things. And Nightwatch, I will do that again, just when its a bit warmer and with a few more people around just in case.

And Scott, that is a great idea.

So, clayton_e, Have you gotten approval to do the column? Have you chosen a name for the column? Have you chosen your first challenge?

And while we’re at it, what did you finally choose for your quotes in your high school yearbook? It drives me crazy when I get interested in a thread and never learn how things turned out.

Once your column is being published, I hope you’ll be able to provide a link to it or (mods permitting) reprint the column in a thread.

Paper Lion?

Spend a week practicing with the Football/Basketball team.
Spend a week in the Marching Band.
Spend a week with a janitor.
Spend a week with campus security.
Spend a week on stilts. Not really big ones, just about a 18 inches or so.

I like the week with the janitor idea.

They may be quiet but they are usually privy to all the good campus dirt. They see and hear all.
Skydiving would make an interesting column, or riding in a hot air balloon.

You could go through fraternity/sorority rush and report your thoughts (it’s not like you have to accept a bid to join). This would especially be good if you go to school where it is “uncool” to go Greek.

Hey all, sorry I didn’t respond quicker, I didn’t realize this thread was revived.

I got approval from the editors, they’re just not sure if it will be weekly or bi-weekly.

I havn’t chosen a name for it yet. It’ll probably be either a couple weeks before Christmas break or at the beginning of the next semester that I’ll be writing.

And thanks all for the suggestions. I have written them all down along with the others people have suggested. I’ll have a huge list of great ideas to choose from each week.
