Some people would say 10 minutes isn’t enough, and why can’t we increase it to 20?

Well I’M not saying that. I’m saying that 10 minutes would be better than five. Don’t reduce my request to the lowest common denominator ad absurdum.

What I’m saying is that five minutes seems like a reasonable time for most people. Some people (I’m not saying you;)) are always going to want more time, no matter what the time is set at.

How about doing a poll on that and seeing if MOST people would like a little bit more time?

We really don’t get a lot of complaints on the issue.

The current edit time really isn’t a problem for most people. If we let it go too much longer then other thread replies can start getting in before edits are completed, which can totally screw up a thread. The 5 minute window is intended to be just enough time for you to look at the screen and go “oops!” and fix any submission errors. It’s not intended to give you a lot of time to think deeply about what you’ve posted and change your post around later.

If you find yourself consistently needing a bit more time to edit posts, the usual recommendation is to compose your post in something like notepad or some other text editor of your choice. Then you can look at it, fiddle with it, etc. all at your leisure, and only copy and past it into a post after you are sure you’ve got all the edits out of it.

Also, if you notice after 10 minutes that you made a typo and it really bugs you, just pm a mod. We’ll usually fix it for you if it’s something like a typo that doesn’t affect the meaning of your post.

It takes me longer than 30 seconds to type another post and that’s if I don’t even read the thread.

Some of us take longer than others, sometimes even as long as it takes…

Then how about just cutting out that step and going ahead and making it 20 straight off?
