I have given up. Big Tech has beat me into submission

In the past I had separate passwords on everything. Complex ones. No F’book or Messenger or X for me, no sir. No bank apps. I value privacy and do not want to be grist for the AI mill. But gradually they beat me down. I needed technical info on Facebook. People sent messages to me on Messenger. Keeping track of expenses in real time proved very useful. Paying taxes or dealing with payroll needed bank app.Endless passwords .

So now my phone knows all. It replaces my pancreas, pays my bills, helps me do calculations, provides my news.

Damn.

Anybody else feel like they were muscled into bad decisions by day to day culture?

We’ve been going there for decades already. I’ve worked in tech since 1997, and at one point, I had to have something like four or five work-related passwords for various systems, as well as however many personal ones.

At least at work, the general industry push has been toward consolidated authentication and single sign on systems, usually combined with two factor authentication. Even then, there are usually a couple of passwords you have to keep track of.

The only similar thing is having something like Lastpass, Google, or Apple doing something vaguely similar with their password managers, and using your phone as your authentication device.

YES!

But, what you gonna do? I have successfully stayed off Facebook.

I need a phone that replaces my pancreas. That would be great.

Beck, the phone-pancreas hybrid is a godsend in some respects, but the software was written by chimps and approved at the fda by sloths. Separate software packages for the pump and sensor. In my case sensor software is an abomination, pump is better. Depends on the phone platform in my experience.

To use its trademarked name, iPhonCreas.

I thought there was a small indie biohacking scene for this (DIY diabetes apps/pumps)? But that also sounds quite dangerous…

Sadly, it’s a lot easier when you don’t care about privacy :frowning: I’m lucky that it’s never been a big concern of mine, and I happily just let 1password store all my passwords and Google store everything else. But every privacy conscious person I know struggles with this, and it gets worse even year… they built a whole industry on predatory practices that exploit the user as product. It sucks.

I haven’t had social media in nearly a decade, though, and don’t really seem to be missing anything of substance. Sure, a few events here and there, but overall it’s been a lot less mentally draining than trying to keep up with big tech and the endless controversies, both by the companies themselves and their users.

Yeah, I rarely trust the CGM/pump talking to each other. They kinda act like they hate each other(bad blood, I guess :slightly_smiling_face:).
The things seem like they hate me too. We are calibrating and adjusting nearly daily.

I keep the OG testing and syringes around for just such kerfuffles.

I’ve found an essy solution to this problem.

Just use “password123” for all your accounts. That’s how the pros do it.

I get warnings all the time that I should change my password for a lot of sites because it’s reused. But that’s always on sites that don’t matter at all but still required registration. If there was actual billing information or something on there then I’d have it better protected. The account I had to make twenty years ago to ask a question on a forum for my old Impreza? Not a problem.

Seriously? That’s a horrible idea & it’ll never work.

Use, “Password!23” which also has a capital & special character, thus meeting all of the requirements. You’re welcome!
